Let me start by saying that I normally don’t take action figures outside to take pictures of them. I do love seeing outdoor shots, but it’s just a lot of trouble to get them set up, and I would rue the day that one of my neighbors catches me doing so. But for this custom Marvel Legends Zabu, I was compelled.
You may remember GrownNerd’s entry in CustomCon 22, Savage Land Face-Off Zabu & Ultra-raptor. If you haven’t seen that, you’ve got to check it out. What you may not know is that the Zabu in that CustomCon entry is the *second* Zabu he made. When he posted the recipe for Zabu on his customs thread at TheFwoosh.com, he revealed that he wasn’t happy with the first. I suggested that I take the first one off his hands because it was such a piece of crap, and shortly thereafter, I had this beauty in my hands. Never underestimate the power of sarcasm coupled with suggestion!
I had to beg, borrow, and steal to get these lazy mofos (me included) to write something up, but here’s what some of the crackjack staff members at the Fwoosh (me included) had to say about what we saw coming out of San Diego Comic-Con.
At last, because no one demanded it and because the show’s been over for a month already, here’s the San Diego Comic-Con Best in Show review, by your friendly neighborhood Fwoosh staff.
Based on the Hasbro Marvel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, we’ve been calling this “wave 1” of the 2010 lineup of Marvel Universe. After all, the line is getting a packaging update to represent the Dark Reign currently underway in Marvel Comics and the numbering is resetting to start at “001” again.
However, today we stumbled across this listing for Marvel Universe “Series 06” at BigBadToyStore.com. Perhaps this line is selling through well enough for Hasbro to push up product. That’d be a nice change from what we’ve seen on the Marvel Legends side of things.
It’s a few weeks later than we expected them, but Hasbro has released the results of the 2010 Marvel Legends Fan’s Choice poll they kicked off at San Diego Comic-Con. Your picks? Deadpool, Valkyrie, and Black Widow.
At the show, I talked with Scott George of the Hasbro Marvel team – we differed on how we thought the poll might turn out. He thought that the vote would swing in favor of the more eclectic choices. I counted on the mass market kicking in and thought it would go the way of the more popular characters. With Deadpool coming in at #1, I’m guessing it went more my way than his. Scott, you owe me a Coke!
Now the arduous task is ahead of us – waiting for Hasbro to release their accompanying three picks!
FAN’S CHOICE MARVEL LEGENDS – THE RESULTS ARE IN!
Because you demanded it! You debated the choices, you cast your votes and now it’s time to reveal the winners – the top 3 fan favorites as decided by you! So, without further delay, the winners of the 2010 Marvel Legends Fan’s Choice Poll are:
As we’re sure you already know, these three winners have now made it into the next wave of Marvel Legends 2 packs along with three figures (our picks) to be announced later. Three new two packs in the wave, 6 total figures, you pick three and we pick three – nice!
We want to thank all of the Marvel Fans and collectors who logged on and cast their votes – the response was tremendous! It was great talking with you in San Diego… and we hope your choices made the cut. Keep your eyes open for an announcement on the Hasbro picks for this wave, coming soon!
Here’s the pics I took of the winners at SDCC. For the writeup and pics of all the Fan’s Choice selections, see my San Diego Comic-Con Hasbro Marvel Pics.
Before I get started, yes, I know that there’s no Punisher here. Since the Marvel Legends Nemesis wave is a Wal-Mart exclusive, I had to rely on the kindness of others to get these figures. It started wayyyyy back when this wave started hitting in Canada – I thought they’d be hitting the US with haste, and when they didn’t, it was too late to nab a set. Some smart people did, and I was the beneficiary of the heavy packing of Punisher and Daredevil, and their variants – a friend passed along their extra Build-A-Figure pieces for Nemesis (nee Holocaust).
When this wave recently started hitting Wal-Marts in the US, I again relied on friends to fill out the wave. But since I already had the BAF piece, and because I already had the perfect Punisher (a combination of Toy Biz’s ML 4 and Face-Off, by Joshua Izzo), I passed on him. So, this pictorial is brought to you by kickass Fwooshers Simun, DisThunder, and ActorJez – thanks very much, guys!
