Lazy Customizer Tip – Use Silicone Sealant to Attach Heads and Tighten Socket Joints

If you’re a customizer, you’ve probably ended up with a custom with a wobbly or loose head. Maybe the existing socket on the head you’ve swapped in is too big, or you drilled out a hole in a resin head cast that’s wide enough to fit over the peg only to find it flops around like it’s on a bobble head. Because I’m a lazy customizer, I had around half a dozen “finished” customs that were like this. For some, the heads would flop around mercilessly. For others, if you knocked the shelf the heads would just fall off. Pretty bad – I know.

Faced with this situation, a pro customizer would use a two part compound like Apoxie Sculpt or Kneadatite, fill the socket part ways and attach the head – and before it was completely cured, would twist the head so it wouldn’t be stuck in one spot. (Or, as some of you will no doubt be thinking, a pro customizer would have drilled the right size socket to begin with…) But I’ve found a much easier way – with silicone sealant. This is the stuff people use for things like aquarium repairs (I think) and… ok, I’m not a hardware guy, so I have no idea what else it’s used for. All I know is that I use it to attach heads to action figures. It takes five minutes and is super easy.

SDCC 2012: Diamond Select Toys Marvel Select Booth Pics

Diamond Select Toys has really been wowing me with their latest Marvel Select figures. As you know, I’m a big Legends fan, but I dig it when there’s an oversized figure that can be fudged into my display. They’ve also been knocking it out of the park with their classic X-Men and the Danger Room diorama pieces. And remember that Marvel Select Rhino? He’s every bit as awesome as when we first saw pics.

Which Hulk Figure is the Strongest One There Is?

Face-Off-Hulk

I tried to like Angst Lee’s Hulk, and while the Incredible Hulk did a little better, it wasn’t until I saw the Avengers movie that I thought, at last – a Hulk truly worthy of the big screen. And now I’m in the market for a new Hulk figure that’s worthy of the Avengers movie’s Hulk. Funny how that works, right? Now, both Marvel Select and Hasbro have movie Hulks, and from what I’ve seen they both feature pretty good sculpts and pretty good articulation.

My de facto Hulk for the past few years has been the very awesome Marvel Legends Face-Off Hulk (pictured above). I really love the head sculpt (and I’m not necessarily looking for a Ruffalo Hulk) and the size is about right for what I’m looking for. On the downside, he doesn’t have any ab articulation, and the range of motion on his elbows is pretty limited. Given these thoughts, which Hulk would you recommend for me? Marvel Select Hulk or the Hasbro Hulk exclusive to Wal-Mart? Or is the Face Off Hulk still the strongest one there is?

Disney Store Swings Two Marvel Select Amazing Spider-Man Exclusives

I haven’t been to a Disney Store in a while – since long before the Marvel acquisition. Have they had a lot of Marvel items on the shelves?

Like flies caught in a web, everyone is buzzing about the new Amazing Spider-Man movie, and Diamond Select Toys has already put out some amazing collectables based on the film! In addition to a movie-inspired series of their popular Minimates mini-figures, DST also recently shipped their Marvel Select Spider-Man and Lizard action figures to comic shops and specialty stores. Well, now MarvelStore.com, DisneyStore.com and physical Disney Store locations will have two special editions of Spidey, as well!

The first exclusive Marvel Select figure will be a version of Spider-Man with interchangeable gloveless hands, plus an interchangeable unmasked Peter Parker head, featuring the likeness of Andrew Garfield. The other exclusive figure will be an entirely metallic version of the regular Spidey figure, depicting the extra-shiny side of the new, big-screen Spidey-suit! Look for both special editions to arrive on MarvelStore.com, DisneyStore.com and Disney Store shelves in early July!
