Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Daredevil, Deadpool, and Hercules

Border Patrol - Marvel Legends Daredevil (Netflix), Deadpool (movie), and Hercules

For this edition of Border Patrol, we’ve got three Marvel Legends customs. One’s from the small screen, another’s from the big screen, and the third is from our favorite source, the good old comic book.

In AFP’s Border Patrol, we scour active eBay auctions for customized action figures that you won’t want to let slip by!

I Am Your Fodder: Marvel Legends Edition

Marvel Legends Constrictor, Madame Masque, and Bucky Captain America on sale

I Am Your Fodder - Marvel Legends Constrictor, Madame Masque, and Bucky Captain America

I think most people would admit that Hasbro has hit its groove with Marvel Legends in terms of character selection and execution, but that still doesn’t mean they’re getting to all your favorites from the Marvel universe. Luckily, Amazon has a variety of Marvel Legends on sale that cover the basic body types for your customizing pleasure.

  • Marvel Universe Constrictor Figure 6 Inches – $7.90 – Hasbro said they would be retiring this body after its use on Iron Fist. I think the base figure has been unfairly maligned lately. While I think the newer hip style is better, and the thighs have seen better days, remember that this body was derived from the old Toy Biz Bullseye.
  • Marvel Universe Marvels Madames Action Figure Madame Masque, 6 Inches – $9.99 – This body saw a lot of use starting with the SHIELD Agent 2-packs. It’s not as curvy as the newer body used recently on Ms. Marvel, but there’s still a lot of characters that could benefit from the slimmer build.
  • Marvel Universe Captain America Figure 6 Inches – $11.80 – This is a go-to body for Hasbro now, and deservedly so. Bucky Cap is a great option for fodder if you don’t mind dealing with boot and glove cuffs. Machine Man at $17 is a completely blank base body, if you don’t mind spending a little more.

I Am Your Fodder highlights action figures that are cheap and would make interesting customizing fodder.

Hot Toys Announces Avengers: Age of Ultron War Machine Mark II

Iron Patriot gets a makeover, reclaims the War Machine name

Hot Toys Avengers Age of Ultron War Machine Mark II 01

I’ll be surprised if Rhodey gets a lot of screen time armored up as War Machine in Avengers: Age of Ultron. It hasn’t been featured in any of the big action sequences revealed thus far. Despite this, Hot Toys is jumping on the opportunity to make another exclusive Iron Man armor. They can do this because War Machine Mark II looks like it’s a repaint of the Iron Patriot diecast figure from Iron Man 3.

If you’re disappointed Rhodey’s armor didn’t get an upgrade, get ready for a little more. Marvel Studios originally had the War Machine repaint ready to go for IM3, but it ended up on the cutting room floor. So if War Machine has more than a brief cameo in AOU, then they really cheaped out on him. How do I know this? Hasbro had a Marvel Legends War Machine Mark II ready to go to support the Iron Man threequel a couple of years ago. (It hasn’t made it to shelves yet.)

No pre-order up yet, but I’ll be checking Sideshow for War Machine later today. For reference, the Hot Toys Iron Patriot was $309.99 when it was first sold – that figure is waitlisted now.

Age of Ultron Movie Vision Revealed

Origins of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver explained

Entertainment Weekly Summer Movie Preview Age of Ultron - covers combined 1

Entertainment Weekly’s Summer Movie Preview issue is out this week, and it will feature four Avengers: Age of Ultron covers that you can collect and connect (R.I.P. DC Universe Classics). Together, they form a group shot of the Avengers and Ultron that is highly reminiscent of the collected covers of X-Men #1 from back in 1991. The second cover reveals Vision in his / its entirety. His design is markedly different from the two Vision action figures we know are coming in Marvel Legends.

Vision’s origin in the comics is a known quantity, but since we know there’s no Hank Pym in Avengers: AOU, we know that Ultron’s origin is different. Perhaps we’ll be surprised how Vision comes to be. The teaser for the EW issue also clarifies the origins of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Previous speculation tied them to the Inhumans as revealed in Agents of SHIELD. This helps Marvel steer clear of the licensing issues with Fox and X-Men / mutants. But they’ll actually be more closely tied to events that played out in the first Avengers movie.
