Masters of the Universe Classics Mekaneck and Dragon Blaster Skeletor Reveals

If you’ve been wondering why you might want to sign up  for Mattel’s collector email list, here’s a couple of good reasons. In their May 18 and June 6 emails Mattel included the first reveals for their upcoming Masters of the Universe Classics Mekaneck and Dragon Blaster Skeletor figures. Mekaneck is due in October and Skeletor sometime in the 3rd quarter – both will be included in the Club Eternia subscription.

I’m looking forward to future reveals in the Matty emails, but at this point I’m expecting they’ll hold off on any more reveals until San Diego Comic-Con next month.

DC Universe Classics Atrocitus and Metron and Masters of the Universe Classics Horde Prime and Griffin on Sale 6/15

A few Mattel posts tonight – first off, a reminder that this Friday is the sale date for June, with a couple big hitters for DC and Masters. I’m looking forward to getting my Metron (only available with the Club Infinite Earths subscription or in the after-market) to add to my Cosmic Odyssey display. Atrocitus will need some creative posing to make him more imposing.

As far as Masters, the Griffin is awesome, but I’m not sure if I can make room for him or the other sub figures (Horde Prime and Snake Man-At-Arms) this month.

The Voltron Green Lion is also on sale, but I really wonder how many folks are going a la carte for Voltron – probably just the folks who found out about the subscription after pre-orders had closed out.

Here’s the link for the bundle page for the 6/15 sale, for your convenience. Happy shopping!

Mattel San Diego Comic-Con 2012 Exclusive Pre-Orders Starting May 30

MattyCollector.com has opened up pre-orders for the Mattel San Diego Comic-Con 2012 exclusives. As I previously discussed, I think this year’s exclusives, including the Masters of the Universe Classics Vykron, are a little off the mark – I’m probably going to leave it up to my show floor impulses to decide if I’ll pick anything up.

One new item that wasn’t covered in the initial reveals is the The Dark Knight Rises Movie Masters Figure, which features Bruce Wayne with a Batman suit. The figure itself looks to be a standard DC Universe Classics buck, and the suit is a flexible overlay. I imagine it will limit most of the articulation, but as presented in package (the armory of the Batcave) it looks pretty cool.

Masters of the Universe Classics Vykron Headlines a Puzzling Line-Up of Mattel’s SDCC Exclusives for 2012

Maybe it’s just me, but with the San Diego Comic-Con exclusives Mattel revealed yesterday, I am starting to think they are losing touch with their core market for their collector-oriented lines – the little boys that grew up with toys from He-Man and DC Comics and now have a strong nostalgic pull toward their grown-up versions. I understand the Cars, the Tiny Titans and the Polly Pockets – those same guys now have little boys and girls of their own, and SDCC has become a family event. But the rest seem odd or somehow miss the mark.
