MOTU Classics Tri-Klops and More On Sale August 17

Two updates from Mattel – first, they’ve posted a reminder for me to remind you that the Masters of the Universe Classics Tri-Klops is on sale on Mattycollector.com at Noon EST.  I’m looking forward to seeing if he can dethrone Man-At-Arms as the baddest badass on my MOTU shelf.

Tri-Klops may be the big item for me, but there’s a whole mess of stuff going up tomorrow, so be ready for some red screens of death.

Big sale on Monday! MOTUC Tri-Klops, Infinite Heroes Crisis 4 pack, JLU Shazam pack, plus a few retail Batman Brave and the Bold and Dark Knight items! Check out MattyCollector.com at 12 noon eastern Aug 17th!

I’m not exactly sure which Brave and the Bold and Dark Knight products are going up tomorrow, but posted pics of all that’s currently up there.  Matty will also have a 1:24 die cast Lightning McQueen, so it could get a little crazy, with both action figure and Hot Wheels collectors converging on the site.

Mattel also posted a round-up of sorts of the latest Ask Matty sessions (AFP’s latest Ask Matty Round-Up was posted yesterday).  They touch on a lot of sore spots, for example, $20 Dark Knight Movie Masters, bonus figures not in Club Eternia, and Gleek.  Not sure if the explanations will soothe the folks who are raging over them, but at least Mattel understands that some people are upset.  And a new hurt for folks on the east coast – Mattel won’t be at New York Comic-Con next year.  That’s not surprising, since it’s in October, during the prime selling season for big box retailers.

AFP’s Ask Matty Round-Up for 8/15/9

Now that the whirlwind of San Diego Comic-Con is behind us, Mattel is back at the never-ending task of answering our fan questions.  If you’ve got something you’d like to ask Matty in a future installment, leave us a comment and we’ll try to incorporate it an upcoming batch.

Here’s the latest set of Q&A.  Thanks to Mattel and Toy Guru!

1. Great showing at SDCC! Of the various new announcements that Mattel made at SDCC (or shortly thereafter), which one are you most excited about and why?

The World’s Greatest Superheroes and 12” Movie Masters of Superman and Zod are personal favorites. The first World’s Greatest figure, Green Arrow, will be on MattyCollector on 12/15/09 followed by a retail wave in late Spring 2010. These will be incredible!

Club Eternia Subscriptions for Masters of the Universe Classics Close Friday at Noon EST

Two things to note here:

  • The deadline for ordering Club Eternia, the 2010 subscription plan for Masters of the Universe Classics, is at NOON EST on Friday.  So if you’ve got the tendency to sleep in on Friday mornings, it might be best to get your last minute orders in on Thursday.
  • Mattel is leaning towards the partial flocking option for Moss Man.  Huzzah!

Honestly, I’m still on the fence for the subscription.  Mattel and the Four Horsemen have such a big share of my action figure expenditures that every month I’ll be hitting up Mattycollector anyways.  So if there’s something else I’m getting besides Wun-Dar and the posters, I can’t figure it out.  I need to decide whether Wun-Dar is worth what I’ll be paying in extra shipping and handling next year for my Matty purchases not covered by the subscription.  While I like the subscription model, I would much rather have a pre-ordering option by figure.

Here’s the pics and what I wrote up during San Diego Comic-Con for Club Eternia and the Masters line: San Diego Comic-Con Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics Pics (more of them!)

Moss Man Unflocked – Mattel Wants Fan Input on Change to Masters of the Universe Classics Figure

Mattel is asking that you weigh in on Masters of the Universe Classics Moss-Man. They’re having trouble flocking him and want you to pick from two options.

  • Flocked with limited articulation (no elbows, knees, or ankles)
  • Unflocked with all the articulation

The guys at he-man.org came up with what I think are two very reasonable alternatives.

  • Spot-flocking – only flocking certain areas of the figure that wouldn’t hinder articulation (credit: JonWes, he-man.org)
  • Flocked heads with unflocked bodies (credit: shantustarsun, he-man.org)

moss-man-options

I don’t know if spot-flocking is an option, but I prefer that the best.  If that’s not possible, I think that having a flocked head with a fully articulated body is the next best thing.

Please let your voices be heard.  Leave comments here, on Mattel’s Facebook page, or on he-man.org.  Mattel will be making a decision on this next Monday.

Hey He-Fans,

Just to let everyone know, we are working out some of the kinks with Moss Man right now. The flocking on a highly articulated figure is a bit tricker then we expected. There is a chance Moss Man may get pushed out to April and the “as-of-yet-unannounced” April figure will get bumped up to March (see why we have bonus figures in tow, stuff like this happens a lot!). This is not confirmed yet, just want to keep you all in the loop.

And along those lines, would fans be interested in Moss Man if he was not flocked? Or is this a make or break deal? We are doing everything we can to keep him flocked, but just curious what fans think?

If the only way to flock him would be to limit the articulation would that be okay also? Curious what you all think?

We want to hear your feedback!

Matty

Here is the flocked version with head 1.

Here is what Moss Man looks like without flock with head 2. Still pretty cool. And both versions would come with both heads whether we flock or not.

Masters of the Universe Classics Teela and Zodak Coming in October

More Masters of the Universe Classics updates from Mattel – they’ve posted pictures of the October figures, previously announced at San Diego Comic-Con.

Teela, Captain of the Eternian Guard, will be the first female figure in the line, and is the “regular” figure that will be included in the fall subscription, if you have one.  Mattel had hinted previously that Teela would come with a special accessory – as many guessed, it’s Zoar the falcon.

Zodak features the 200X redesign of Zodac, and is the bonus figure for the month – he is not part of the subscription.  I really liked the Zodak redesign, so I’m stoked he’s getting his day in MOTU Classics.

October MOTU Classic figures revealed!

Teela and Zodak will hit on Oct 15th! Get em while you can. If you have a 2009 Subscription you are guaranteed Teela!

Teela comes with sword, shield, staff of Ka, alt. head with snake armor and Zoar the falcon in orginal deco. (not to worry, Zoar in blue and red deco is coming too, but not for a little while…)

Check out Teela’s bio!

Zodak will be a “bonus” figure for October and is not included in the subscription.

Zodak comes with cosmic armor and an all new Power Staff!

Yes, we know there is a small type-o in Zodak’s bio and are working to fix that before it ships out!

For those of you with your magnifying glasses out, Tyler Pearce did us a solid and posted the bios on Mattel’s Facebook page.  Enjoy!

Teela
Real Name: Teela

The adoptive daughter of Duncan, the current Man-At-Arms, Teela grew up in the palace of King Randor. Trained from an early age in the ways of battle, at 18 she became Captain of the Guard, leading Randor’s troops and acting as a defacto member of the Masters of the Universe. She has yet to become aware of her true heritage as the magically cloned daughter, and heir to, the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull. She carries the staff of Ka which was once used by the Snake Men in their epic battles against the Horde and King Grayskull during the Great Wars. Teela uses her magical staff to track her foes every move.

Zodak
Real Name: Kar-Tor

An ancient and powerful enforcer for the Council of Elders, Kar-Tor studied the teachings and mystic fighting techniques of the Cosmic Enforcers and knows how to instantly identify an opponent’s weakness. After his mentor, the original Zodac, left Eternia to fulfill the Eldor’s bargain with Tolla*. Kar-Tor took his place on the Council and helped lead them in battle against the Snake Men, eventually trapping King Hssss in the void with the power of his staff. Although he prefers a solitary life of meditation in the mystic mountains, when he is called to battle Zodak attacks his enemies using all the power at his command.

*Mattel mentioned a typo on this bio and I’m guessing this should read Trolla.
