Toy Fair 2015: Mattel Batman 1966 Line (including Batcave Playset Fly-By Video)

Toy Fair 2015 Mattel Batman 1966 (1 of 6)

Remember watching the Adam West Batman show and ending up with a cliffhanger – only to miss the following episode? That’s what it felt like waiting for news about Mattel’s Batman 1966 line. A nostalgic favorite for many, the line hit some snags with sell-through and its fate was uncertain.

At least until this past weekend, when Mattel announced the Batman 1966 line would be returning to retail. And in a fitting twist, much of it would be reruns. The 6-inch figure assortment is returning with no new additions to the line-up. The one new 6-incher, the Yvonne Craig Batgirl, shows up in a 3-pack with Batman and Robin. Speaking of the Dynamic Duo, they return with the Batmobile. And Adam West gets a headsculpt in a new deluxe playset entitled “To the Batcave, Batman!”

Toy Fair 2015: Mattel Hot Wheels Elite Back to the Future DeLorean

Toy Fair 2015 Hot Wheels Elite Back to the Future DeLorean (11 of 11)

When Mattel announced the Back to the Future license for Mattycollector way back when, I think many of us were hoping for action figures along the lines of what they had done for Ghostbusters. In hindsight, with a limited roster of characters, Mattel’s decision to forego action figures was probably a good one.

They have, however leveraged the license to make vehicles in the Hot Wheels line. The latest, the Elite Back to the Future DeLorean, allows you to customize the vehicle into all three versions of the Time Machine. You can add the Mr. Fusion reactor or the jerry-rigged mods Doc Brown whipped up in the Old West, for example.

Toy Fair 2015: Mattel WWE Elite

Toy Fair 2015 WWE Elite (1 of 22)

Admittedly, my interest in this line has waned since the Legends line extension was folded back into the Elite umbrella, but I still appreciate the good sculpts and articulation setup for these wrestlers. I’m getting a little more familiar with today’s stable – but that’s only because my wife can’t stop watching the WWE Divas reality show.

Of these reveals, I know the Junkyard Dog, Batista, Doink, and Hogan. Even the Hulkster in his prime (which this figure is not – it looks like a figure for his latest return to the WWE) would have a hard time getting me to recall the rest of them.

Toy Fair 2015: Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics [Update – Club 200X Announcement]

Toy Fair 2015 Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics (1 of 35)

It’s a bit difficult for me to get amped up for Masters of the Universe Classics. During the most recent subscription drive, the 2015 Club Eternia was heavily marketed as the last year for Four Horsemen figures – “Hey folks – this toy line has 12 months left to live…”

At the Mattycollector “nerd herd” this morning, at least the new guys brought in to manage the collector lines didn’t hit us with that downer. They also didn’t say a lot about what’s coming in the line. I guess that’s what these pictures are for.

Toy Fair 2015: Mattel Sssqueezes in One More Teaser

Masters of the Universe Classics Sssqueeze

Mattel’s “nerd herd” isn’t until early Sunday morning, but they’ve still managed to squeeze in one more Masters of the Universe Classics tease for the Mattycollector fans. Sssqueeze looks to be super bendy.

You’d think Mattel would be more sensitive to the plight of the West Coast Toy Fair attendees. I blame them for horrible morning puns.
