First Look – Masters of the Universe Classics Adora – TheFwoosh.com

The Fwoosh has a first look at the first Princess of Power figure to be included in Masters of the Universe Classics – Adora, twin sister of Prince Adam.  VeeBee puts a positive spin on how Adora turned out, but I’ve got to fall in the other camp here.  The final product is a mixed bag, and very much what I was expecting based on the earlier pics.  She’s got a great looking face with beautiful paint apps, but her “skirt” really makes her look frumpy.  The pliability of the material is a positive, the hit for it is pretty steep.

So there she is in all of her glory and I am happy to say that is certainly an instance where the final product turned out MUCH nicer that early peeks seemed to indicate. Hopefully this with charge a lot of people and we can have more interest in the Princess of Power characters. I know I am a strong advocate for them, but I hope Adora will win a lot of people over. They are an essential part of the Masters mythos and, as I said before, I cannot to see the Horsemen’s take on the likes of Frosta, Catra, Glimmer and Mermista. Bring them on! We know She-Ra is coming but hopefully we can start looking forward to three or four PoP characters a year.

DC Universe Classics Custom Cosmic Odyssey Forager and Anti-Life Aspect Catchers

Cosmic Odyssey Forager and Batman with Aspect Catcher

If you’ve known me for a while, you might know what a big fan of Jim Starlin and Mike Mignola’s Cosmic Odyssey I am.  As a comic book mini-series, it’s got everything: big hitters from the DC Universe, New Gods, the possible destruction of our universe, and tragedy on both a planetary and personal scale.  And, as I have suggested to my toy-collecting friends, DC Universe Classics is the line Mattel created so they could produce all the characters from Cosmic Odyssey.  Surely enough, Mattel has continued making them – in the Wal-Mart exclusive wave 10, they made Forager, and in wave 11, they made John Stewart. (I’m still partial to the Cosmic Odyssey custom John Stewart that Robokillah made for me.)

However, when Forager and Batman teamed up to defend Earth, Batman had Alfred put together a black costume for Forager that was better suited for Batman’s work at night.  So when I had the opportunity to pick up another Forager (thanks again to VeeBee for the first one!) I knew I would have to do a quick custom to get him suited up in black.

WWE Interview with Mattel Designers Derek Handy and Bill Miekina

WWE.com has posted a two part interview with designers Derek Handy and Bill Miekina.  They talk about their backgrounds and influences, the challenges and joys of working on WWE, and meeting the wrestlers.  Great stuff!

Also be sure to check out our pre-launch interview with Derek and brand manager PJ Lewis.

Among a mere handful of individuals responsible for all WWE products are lead designer Derek Handy and fellow key design point man at Mattel, Bill Miekina. With a combined 17 years of experience in toy creative, design and execution, the pair juggles everything from sculpting and mechanical architecture (Handy’s handiwork) to paint deco and accuracy (Miekina’s expertise).

In an exclusive interview with WWE.com, Handy and Miekina detailed their crucial roles within the plastic-molding pantheon at Mattel – those responsible for the greatest WWE toys in the history of the squared circle.

Masters of the Universe Classics Moss Man, Evil Lyn, Screech, and Optikk – Action Figure Insider

Mattel was not able to show the upcoming Masters of the Universe Classics “celebrity” figure for San Diego Comic-Con at the MOTU Art Show at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles last night, but they swapped in a previously unannounced figure – Optikk.

Optikk is from the New Adventures of He-Man, the first from that show announced, and will be the Club Eternia figure in May.  He looks like a pretty decent update of the original toy.

Also on hand were Moss Man and Evil Lyn (with an orb that will fit on her wand or staff), and an armored Screech with perch.

Our friends at Action Figure Insider were on hand.
