Toy Fair 2015: Did Mattel Just Tease Masters of the Universe Classics Ceratus?

King Ceratus (MOTU 200X)

Mattel is holding their “nerd herd” this Sunday at Toy Fair, and to build a little excitement they’ve just revealed a teaser image. Sure looks like Ceratus’ tail to me.

Ceratus was introduced in the 200X MOTU cartoon as Whiplash’s older brother and leader of the Caligar. If this tease indeed turns out to be Ceratus, he’ll joined King Randor, King Carnivus, and Lord Dactus as members of the Eternian Council represented in Masters of the Universe Classics.

Spirit of Grayskull Chase Debuts at Early Access for Mattycollector February Sale

Mattycollector February Sale

Looks like just one item will be up for Early Access for Mattycollector’s February sale (opening tomorrow at 8AM PST) – the glow-in-the-dark Masters of the Universe Classics Spirit of Grayskull. The quarterly 2-pack and Ninja Warrior join the sale during All Access on Monday.

I’m looking forward to Ninjor, but I switched to the quarterly plan this year, so I’ll be waiting until March for him and the Snake-themed pair.

DC Collectibles Almost Made Figures for DC Universe Online – Would You Buy Them?

In a poll from the “DC Collectibles Vault” this week, DC Collectibles revealed several products that were designed and sculpted, but never made it to shelves. Among them was a series of action figures from DC Universe Online, the MMORPG for PC and PS4, made by Sony Online Entertainment in collaboration with some of the top creative talent at DC. I played the game for a few years from its launch back in 2011, and was always impressed with its visuals. Unlike many games that create their own aesthetics for the DC characters, DCUO was extremely faithful to the mainstream comic book appearances of its heroes and villains. As such, I thought it was a decent marketing opportunity for a video game action figure line that I’d like to buy – but both DC Collectibles and Mattel opted for Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Also left on the sculpting room floor, so to speak, were a series of New 52 action figures in the 3.75-inch scale and a set of Rainbow Batman repaints (presumably in the standard 6 to 7-inch DCC scale). I think it’s too bad their 3.75-inch figures didn’t get more of a foothold – despite some initial quality issues I found their smaller figures better sculpted and articulated than what Mattel currently has on retail shelves. And Rainbow Batman? Despite the nostalgia factor, I’d pass.

Voting in the poll (which also includes some shelved statues and busts) will give DC Collectibles a measure of popularity, but won’t guarantee that any get made. Still, if there’s enough interest, you never know!

Lonely Lizard Man Makes for a Bleak Mattycollector January Sale

Mattycollector Sale January 2015

November and December were blowout months of a sort at Mattycollector, with DC Universe Classics going on closeout and the final figures, Doomsday and Damien Wayne Robin going on sale. In comparison, this month looks drastically different, with a single new figure up for grabs.

Masters of the Universe Classics fans may get a kick out of Lizard Man, who probably would have ended up in a Club Filmation sub if that had continued. But not even consolation prize Extendar can bring this month’s sale out of the post-holiday funk. Early Access opens tomorrow at 8AM PST, and All Access for January opens up at 9AM PST on Friday.
