DC Universe Classics Custom Earth 2 Superman, Batman, Hawkman, and Robin

Earth 2 - Robin, Batman, Superman, and Hawkman
Earth 2 - Robin, Batman, Superman, and Hawkman

CustomCon 24 was great this past week (and I’m not just saying that because it was hosted at the Fwoosh and put together by me :D) – the customizing world continues to grow and become more talented.  I was happy to participate in the DC Universe Classics Justice Society of America entry by the guys on the Fwoosh staff, with my renditions of four of the original superheroes who formed the Justice Society on Earth 2.

I hadn’t planned on making all four of these.  Robin was the catalyst, and I’ve wanted to convert a Detective Batman from DCUC Wave 1 ever since he was released a couple years ago.  A lot of people find the costume corny, but I’ve loved it since first seeing it back in Justice League of America #91 and #92.  That’s nostalgia for you!

And before I get too far into this, my recipe for Robin is pretty much the same as Iron Cow’s, without the belt swap.  I daresay I was toying with the idea before he made his wonderful Earth 2 Robin v2, but acknowledge him as the far superior craftsman.  And credit for Bats goes to Josh Izzo, who was the first I saw use that particular DC Direct head on a DCUC kitbash for his Silver Age Batman.

Masters of the Universe Classics Trap Jaw and Wun-Dar Packaged Pics

We’ve seen Battle Cat already (after a long long wait) but Trap Jaw and Wun-Dar packaged gives us more to anticipate for Valentine’s Day.  Wun-Dar, and the 30×20 map of Eternia, were originally expected in March, but I’m not complaining about getting him early.  Trap Jaw, and his “before” state of Kronis, round out the MOTU figures for February (what, no re-release?) – and that’s a lot of awesome to get your arms around.

Also, this Tuesday is the big MattyCollector.com sale day, and Mattel has put together a bundled order page to make things easier.

Finally, a note on Evil-Lyn, the MOTU Classics figure for April – Mattel has clarified on their Facebook page that there is not an Evil-Lyn chase figure as was reported by Lee’s, but that there is more to be revealed.  You can see pics of Evil-Lyn in Toy Fare and Lee’s this week.

Mattel Reveals WWE Elite Collection Series 2

Mattel has updated its WWE page on Facebook with a look at the Elite Collection Series 2.  I like how these are looking, but am really waiting for them to start showing their Legends / Superstars line.

Elite Collection Series #2 *Sneak Peak*

Line up includes: Triple H, Batista, R-Truth, Ted DiBiase, Randy Orton, and Matt Hardy.

Look for these on-shelf February 2010!

Mattel Announces Retro-Action DC Super Heroes in Mego Style

It’s official – the World’s Greatest Super Heroes have become Retro-Action DC Super Heroes.  The name may be different, but it describes the product better, imho.  And that product hasn’t changed.  It’s still Mego-styled, with Dr. Mego involved in product design, much like the Four Horsemen are involved with DC Universe Classics.

Although I’m probably smack in the middle of the right age group, I don’t feel a lot of nostalgia for Megos, but I do know a lot of collectors who are psyched about this line.  I’m curious to see how this will play at Toys R Us, given their recent moves to make their stores more collector-friendly.

Retro-Action DC Super Heroes Announced!

Hey, Old-School Toy Fans!

If you love those 8″ cloth-style figures from the 1970s and 1980s, we’ve got news that’s going to make you one happy collector…

Mattel has gone back in time for design inspiration and come up with heroes based on the look of those vintage figures for a brand-new line called Retro-Action DC Super Heroes!

Check out these prototype images. You’ll see they’re not recreations, but updates lovingly based on the old style. In some cases, we’re even improving on iconic features for some of your favorite characters, like a more accurate belt buckle for Green Arrow, or an “s” curl in the hair of Superman.

Green Arrow is up first, and he’ll be offered right here at MattyCollector.com on December 15th. This will be followed by a line at Toys “R” Us and select online retailers in the spring.

There will be three waves of four figures in 2010, starting with these characters in Wave 1:

Superman, Sinestro, Lex Luthor, and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

So if you haven’t already, register for email from me and I’ll send a sale reminder right to your inbox. You can also follow me at Twitter and I’ll tweet reminders there. Remember, Green Arrow goes on sale Tuesday, December 15th, just in time to purchase as a gift for your favorite collector — you!
