Sure, this Skeletor life-sized bust has got a $675 price tag, but just what are you going to do with the money you’ve saved up for Club Eternia if it doesn’t go through? 😉

Soapbox Sunday: I’m KILLIN THE LIEN (One out of Three Subs Ain’t Bad)

Last Chance to Subscribe - Club Eternia, Club Infinite Earths, Ecto-1 KILLIN THE LIEN

Yes, I’m a procrastinator. I haven’t submitted my pre-order for the Mattycollector subscriptions. But when I do, I’ll be one of the guys KILLIN THE LIEN. When it comes to Club Eternia, Club Infinite Earths, and the Ecto-1 pre-orders, I’ll be saying no to Ghostbusters and Masters of the Universe Classics, and giving a hesitant yes to DC Universe Classics.

When I started thinking about this post earlier in the week, I was planning on something a little different. The gist was going to be, “I’ve subbed for Masters and DC (note: I always knew I was going to pass on the Ecto-1), and now it’s up to you” – I’d present my rationale for my decisions. I wouldn’t tell you to sub too (I hate that), but rather ask you to consider how the subs line up with what you want and to make up your own minds.

For the past couple of days, I started to really put that into practice for myself. As someone on the bandwagon since the subscriptions started, it was the de facto choice to keep subbing. So I was pretty surprised to come to the decision to stop subscribing to Club Eternia.

Mattel Announces Damian Wayne Robin for Club Infinite Earths

DW_Robin_Rev_01 Mattel DC and Batman Unlimited (3 of 4) Matty Tracker 2014 - T-2

In our last Ask Matty, we asked if Damian Wayne could be added to the Club Infinite Earths subscription. At that time, we got a tentative maybe. Looks like enough people asked – now it’s happening.

This should get a bump in the Club Infinite Earths sub – I don’t think Digital River is updating over the weekend, but I’ve put up the Matty Tracker for today anyways.

Toy Guru Takes to the Airwaves for Last Chance Mattycollector Subscribers

Matty Tracker 2014 - T-3It was the Invasion of the Pod People this week as Mattel was making its final push for Club Eternia, Club Infinite Earths, and Ecto-1 subscribers. Toy Guru may have officially been out of the office, but that didn’t stop him from participating in a handful of podcasts to get the message out – the decision for these subscriptions to move forward is in our hands now. I’ll encourage you to listen to as much of these as you can, especially if you are still on the fence, or even dead set against subscribing.

Having spoken with Toy Guru more than a few times over the years, I can say with confidence that he loves the brands he represents, and as a collector, he wants to put the best product out there. If part of the reason you are thinking about skipping the subs this year is because of him, I’ll suggest you separate the message from the messenger. He can come off as too sales-oriented – I think that’s because he is very well-prepared before he speaks publicly, making his spiel seem more like a sales pitch and therefore less off the cuff and genuine. Try to take that into account as you listen to these podcasts:

How To: Swap Hands Easily on the Masters of the Universe Classics He-Man

He-Man New Adventures He-Man Hand Swap 1

Once this was pointed out to me I just couldn’t unsee it – a regular Masters of the Universe Classics He-Man can’t hold his sword straight up in his iconic pose when HE HAS THE POWER! He can get pretty close, but since he just has an ordinary swivel wrist, he’s perpetually stuck holding the Power Sword nearly perpendicular to his forearm.

The latest He-Man variant, New Adventures He-Man doesn’t have that problem. In addition to the wrist swivel, he also has a hinge in each wrist. On his right wrist, the hinge allows him to move his hand back and forth, like a conductor tapping his baton against his lectern, or a politician gesturing emphatically that he did not have sexual relations with that woman. In other words, that means that NA He-Man can point his sword straight up.

If you’re like me, you’d rather the real regular He-Man be able to do the pose (did Mattel call it Grayskulling?) – in this post, I’ll show you how I gave He-Man the New Adventures He-Man hands. And don’t worry – even if you’ve never customized before, you can do it too – there’s almost no way you can screw it up.
