Mezco Announces Scott Pilgrim 6-Inch Figures

When I chatted with the good folks at Mezco at San Diego Comic-Con, they said that they were pleased with the strong reception that their Scott Pilgrim line was getting – so it’s not a surprise that they’re introducing a line of figures based on the comic. Hopefully, the figures do well enough to warrant producing Ramona and some of the other characters from the book.

Scott Pilgrim 6 Inch Figure Set Revealed For Preorder

Mezco Toyz presents a new 6inch figure of Scott Pilgrim based on the character from the popular Universal Pictures feature film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and the chart topping series of graphic novels.

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim; a bass guitarist for garage band Sex Bob-omb. The 22-year-old has just met the girl of his dreams…literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers? Her seven evil exes are coming to kill him.

Mezco’s 6” figure captures the wide-eyed enthusiasm and quirky nature of Scott Pilgrim and features 8 points of articulation. To help capture the many looks of Scott Pilgrim, there are 2 separate figures; The first figure wears a green shirt and comes with a closed mouth head. The second in a yellow shirt comes wearing a jacket and has 50/50 pack of the open mouth/closed mouth head. Both variations will come with the sword and guitar.

Each individually packaged.

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 Mezco Exclusive DC Universe Batman and Joker Mez-Itz 2-Pack

Sector1014 returns with a guest review of the SDCC 2010 Mez-Itz 2-Pack featuring Batman and the Joker. Previously, he highlighted the Funko Force 2 DC Universe vinyl figures, which we had missed at the show completely. And a while back, he wrote a great primer on the off-the-wall pick of Kamandi from DC Universe Classics wave 14. What do you think, should we ask him to be a regular here already?

Mezco Mez-Itz Batman Joker SDCC 2010

Ron has been following all the news about Mezco’s new DC line here on AFP since it was announced, and SDCC 2010 brought us our first batch of figs and a look at where the line is going. First out of the gate for the DC 6″ Mez-Itz is the con/web exclusive Batman/Joker two-pack. Both are in classic comic book designs, with Batman displayed in his blue/grey-with-yellow-oval-logo version, and the Joker wearing his trenchcoat (with hat, not pictured above).

San Diego Comic-Con 2010 – Mezco DC Universe Mez-Itz

Mezco was one of my most anticipated stops I had to make on Preview Night at San Diego Comic-Con, primarily for their new line-up of DC Universe Mez-Itz. I’m guessing that a lot of AFP readers aren’t into urban vinyl figures, but I challenge you to look upon these works and rejoice!

While these will see broad release through Diamond and specialty stores, they’ll likely not hit mass market retailers like Toys R Us – because Mattel has such a lock on DC as the master license holder, Mezco had to carve out a very specific niche to be able to produce these.

I’m glad they did. As I’ve said many times, these are compatible with Hasbro’s Mighty Muggs, but the ball-jointed head takes them a step further in the poses and resulting character these emanate. And the designs are a home run – I must have that Sinestro, now!

San Diego Comic-Con Most Wanted – SamuRon

Wow, is it that time already? The biggest pop culture event of the year is upon us, and I’m just not ready for it.

Thankfully, the rest of the guys have already covered the bulk of my Most Wanted list, so check out their pre-game shows: Buzzy, Sandman, and Talyn. Here’s some of the upcoming toy lines from my favorite toy companies that somehow didn’t already get mentioned:

DC Universe Mez-Itz (Mezco)

As far as I’m concerned, there’s been a hole in the urban vinyl category shaped like a big “DC” – ever since Hasbro took vinyl and brought it to mass market as Mighty Muggs for its Marvel, Star Wars, GI Joe, and Transformers licenses, I’ve been waiting for DC to follow suit. I thought last year we might get a line from Mattel – they had some protos on display for Masters of the Universe and others that never made it to toy shelves. And DC Direct’s Blammoids made it to comic book stores but just aren’t my cup of tea.

With DC going with Mez-Itz, I think we’ve finally got a chance for DC urban vinyl for mass market. Mez-Itz has a very pleasing form factor that’s scale compatible with Mighty Muggs. And they’ve got those ball-jointed necks, that make them a superior offering. I can’t wait to pick up the Batman / Joker exclusive, and see what else Mezco has planned.
