Q: What’s Better Than Storing Your Action Figures in Big Plastic Tubs? v2

A: Actually having space to display them! 🙂

A few months ago I wrote about having to dismantle my “toy room” because we had decided to put in new carpet, and then about getting to put together a new and improved display. This past weekend, I put the finishing touches on some upgrades.

Mezco Mez-Itz Perseus and Freddy Krueger Available in April 2010

Also coming in April 2010 from Mezco are two new Mez-Itz, Perseus from Clash of the Titans and Freddy Krueger.

Clash of the Titans is the second time in recent memory that I’ve learned of an upcoming blockbuster movie because of toys – the first was Prince of Persia when McFarlane announced its toy lines for it.  The Clash of the Titans movie comes out in March next year.

The son of Zeus is reimagined as a Mez-It, 6″ rotocast vinyl collectibles that are cool by design. The tamer of Pegasus and the slayer of Medusa becomes part of Mezco’s designer vinyl line and comes complete with his sword of the gods. Perseus features five points of articulation and is packaged in a collector friendly window box. Clash of the Titans, a big budget remake of the 1981 film version of the myth of Perseus and his quest to battle both Medusa and the Kraken monster in order to save the Princess Andromeda, comes to theatres in March, 2010.

As far as I know, Nightmare on Elm Street isn’t one of the horror franchises that has a new movie coming out, but you know I’m out of touch with what’s happening in Hollywood.  This Mez-Itz features a new design that is different from the Freddy that comes with Jason Vorhees in a two-pack that should be hitting any day now.

Family Guy Classics Series 2 Available in April 2010

Family Guy fans, take heart that the Classics series is continuing.  Series 2 was just put up on Mezco Direct for pre-order, arriving in April next year.  I did not see the first series of Classics in person, so I’m not sure if the figures come with all of the original accessories.

Mezco’s line of six inch scale rotocast figures from the Emmy-award winning animated TV show, continues, including show accurate accessories.

Series 2 includes:

  • Secret Agent Astronaut Millionaire Peter
  • Bed Time Stewie
  • Cleveland (star of the new The Cleveland Show!)

The first episode of The Family Guy aired in 1999, and 10 years later the show is more popular than ever, with over 18 million weekly viewers and top-rated DVD sales! New episodes air weekly on FOX TV, and syndicated episodes can be seen multiple times a night on TBS and Cartoon Network.

Set includes 1 of each figure.

Available April 2010.

Mezco Exclusive Zombie Mez-Itz and Comox Valley Zombie Walk

I’ve become a big zombie fan. I love Shaun of the Dead, play Left 4 Dead a couple times a week, and have pre-ordered Left4Dead 2 so I’ll have it when it comes out next month.  Zombie Mez-Itz will go great with the Mez-Itz Hellboy and the Mez-Itz Wolfman, and a 10% discount is just the icing on the brains.

The zombies are coming, and they want you to volunteer. No, not to be eaten, but to participate in their walk. Actually, being zombies, it is technically more of a “shuffle”, but the concept is the same. Mezco will be helping to support the Zombie walk by supplying goodie bags to 150 participants, as well as giving a 10% discount to all zombies using the secret code BRAINS on orders at the Mezco Direct website*.

The Comox Valley Zombie Walk will meet at 4:30 pm on Halloween (Oct 31) on the corner of 5th and Fitzgerald St. Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada. They will shuffle down 5th street and finish the walk at 6:00 pm, and enter Joe’s Garage for an after party to eat, give away prizes, and partake in general zombie festivities.

The first ever Zombie Walk was held in August, 2001 in Sacramento, California and has since become an annual event. In 2007, the Toronto Zombie Walk drew a crowd of well over 1,100 zombies, a number confirmed by Toronto Police Services. This was the largest Zombie Walk on record at the time.

Q: What’s Better Than Storing Your Action Figures in Big Plastic Tubs?

A: Actually having space to display them! 😀

A couple of days ago, I was lamenting having to move all of the action figures I had, not because we were moving, but because we had decided to install new carpeting. A few of them were on display in a small bookshelf that was mostly filled with books, and the balance were stored in big plastic tubs that I used to call “Staging Area One.” The carpet went in earlier this week, and I’ve been spending the last couple of days setting up the new display.

We got rid of the old bookshelf and added more shelving cubes. In all, there are forty-nine 1-foot square cubes, and I’ve got figures in thirty-one of them, and extra figures and customizing supplies in fourteen more. I’d guess I’ve got at least five times more display space than I used to.
