With oil and labor prices continuing to pressure toy manufacturers, more companies are looking to the cost-friendly 3 3/4 inch scale for relief. Mezco did this with great results with its Hellboy 2: The Golden Army line, producing figures in both 3 3/4 inch and 7 inch scales.
For the upcoming tentpole feature, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, NECA has followed suit, introducing two action figure lines in the traditional 7 inch scale and now 3 3/4 inches. They’ve made it a little harder to choose between them – fan favorite Mad Eye Moody will only be available in 7 inches, while Lord Voldemort will only be available in 3 3/4.
I’m looking forward to seeing what NECA can do in the smaller scale.

It’s Harry Potter’s sixth year at Hogwarts, and aside from the rising power of Voldemort, the mysterious potion book that once belonged to the Half-Blood Prince, the shady doings of Draco Malfoy, private lessons from Dumbledore and the occasional Death Eater, our hero has to deal with having a crush on his best friend Ron Weasley’s sister, Ginny. It’s a wonder he manages to keep his grades up and still have time to be captain of the quidditch team.
NECA is proud to unveil these two new lines of Harry Potter action figures, the first based on the new movie and the next step in the life story of the wizard who changed the face of magic forever. Mad-Eye Moody (7″ only) – Alastor Moody, nicknamed Mad-Eye because, well, he’s got a crazy eye patch, is a veteran of the first wizarding war and a powerful ally in the Order of the Phoenix. But just be careful because that mad eye of his, like everything else at Hogwarts, is magical. Figure includes staff and display stand.
Lord Voldemort (3 3/4″ only) – In the world of Harry Potter, Voldemort is the root of all evil, and more than that, he’s almost impossible to defeat. Will Harry be up to the task? Maybe, but even the best victories come at a heavy price. Figure includes wand and display stand.
NECA’s series 2 of their Street Fighter 4 line debuted at NY Comic-Con, and will be available in July. The series continues with three big hitters – Chun-Li, Akuma, and Guile. I can’t figure out where Akuma and Guile are getting their four extra points of articulation. Anyone know?
At Wizard World Philly, Randy Falk announced we would be seeing new sets this fall featuring existing characters in alternate colors, including a set exclusive to Toys R Us. Series 1 included Ken, Ryu, and Crimson Viper.

The landmark franchise that defined a generation of gaming, Street Fighter has some of the most recognizable characters in the world. Street Fighter 4 is the latest and greatest installment yet, and NECA is proud to be behind it with these awesome looking figures.
Chun-Li has 31 points of articulation and five interchangeable hands, while Akuma and Guile both have a whopping 35 points of articulation and two interchangeable hands. The full assortment will be available next month, and watch out for more Street Fighter news coming soon.
Coinciding with the release of Activision’s new open world action game, Prototype, NECA has released a figure of Prototype’s hero, Alex Mercer. Given the character’s freerunning abilities, I would have hoped for a more articulated figure, but NECA has seemed to go back and forth on how much articulation they’ll be putting into the Player Select line.

Just in time for the June 9 release of Activision’s new hit game Prototype, NECA Player Select unveils our very first figure for it: lead character Alex Mercer!
The scene is New York City and a mutating virus has just been unleashed in Penn Station (how would you know? — heyo!). Alex wakes up in the hospital, unable to remember anything, but soon learns he has the ability to modify his genetic code at will and attains superhuman powers.
With some help along the way, Alex begins to unravel the conspiracy surrounding the release of the virus and ultimately clashes with the likes of the military and secret government enforcers, all the while battling through the hordes of deformed New Yorkers using his newfound strength, agility and shape-shifting.
The fate of the city and ultimately the world beyond is up to you as the player, but however it turns out, NECA’s Alex Mercer features his morphing bladed right arm and ball-jointed neck, shoulders, torso, and wrists, and comes in a collector-grade clamshell package — ready for the fight of his life.
NECA has announced new Gears of War product, featuring improved articulation and loads of accessories, including interchangeable heads. The boxed set features army builders from the Locust HIVE, and the two-pack features two new characters that haven’t appeared yet in the line, Lt. Kim and General RAAM.

Humanity strikes back against the nightmarish Locust Horde with a plan to detonate a Lightmass bomb in the subterranean Horde stronghold. The bomb requires targeting data from a series of deployed resonators, and unfortunately one has gone missing. Lieutenant Minh Young Kim and his Delta Squad are sent on a recovery mission but are ambushed near the House of Sovereigns. Separated from his squad by a helicopter crash, Kim comes face-to-face with RAAM, the monstrous and brutal field commander of the Locust. Their encounter ends tragically with Lieutenant Kim impaled upon RAAM’s blade.
From the original smash hit games comes two brand new Gears figures. The heroic COG soldier Lt. Kim and the end boss from the original Gears of War, Locust General RAAM. Each Figure stands 7″ tall and is fully poseable. Game-accurate accessories include a Troika, Lancer and Knife.
Randy Falk, Director of Product Development at NECA, was kind enough to provide some clarification about the upcoming releases of April O’Neil in NECA’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles line.
April is one of NECA’s exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con, and she is also slated to be part of series 2 of TMNT, available through specialty retailers. From Randy:
The retail release of April will NOT be in the blue jumpsuit. She will be offered in other color(s) and she will also come with 2 Mousers. Details to be announced at a later date.
Online retailers are still listing pre-orders for series 2 with arrival estimated in 2nd quarter 2009, although I suspect we may see this get pushed into 3rd quarter.
