SDCC 2012: ThunderCats Minimates Set at Action Figure Xpress

The fearless leader of the ThunderCats, Lion-O holds both the Sword of Omens and his iconic claw shield in the collection.

AFX’s exclusive ThunderCats Minimates set will fill the Panthro-sized gap in my collection. I was terribly disappointed that Bandai’s classic ThunderCats action figures never really got off the ground, in either the 8-inch or 6-inch scale. The Minimates format is probably the best bet for less expensive Thundercats, with the show no longer in Cartoon Network’s lineup.

SDCC 2012: Mezco Reveals Summer Exclusives, Including Dark Knight and Wonder Woman Mez-Itz

Mezco has announced its summer exclusives, and I’m glad to see more DC Mez-Itz on their way. Headlining the announcements are a 20-inch Batman from the Dark Knight Nolan-verse and a 6-inch Wonder Woman. I will be picking WW up for sure. Rounding out the announcements are a Catwoman Mez-Itz keychain, Thundercats Mumm-Ra 2-pack, a quartet of Living Dead Dolls, and an Earthworm Jim exclusive that will be sure to please fans of the game.

SDCC 2012: Marvel Universe Special Edition SHIELD Heli-Carrier Reveal

I’m doing a little catch-up, so apologies if this is old news – I’d been wondering what Hasbro would for follow-up to the huge Marvel Universe Galactus and Sentinel exclusives from San Diego Comic-Con the past two years. And they’ve managed to bring an even bigger item to the show – the SHIELD Heli-Carrier. It will come with two figures – Captain America and SHIELD Agent Maria Hill, and at four massive feet long it will be about a foot longer than the planned retail release – invite another buddy over and have him stick his lunch from Subway on that section where Cap is standing (that’s where you’ll find the extra foot). If you don’t have another friend (or don’t like Subway) you could also invade the Heli-Carrier with your Masters of Evil 3-Pack exclusive.

With special SDCC packaging by Joe Quesada, this will be a massive package to cart around, if you choose to pick one up at the Hasbro booth for the price of 26 Subway subs (aka $129.99). I don’t know where I’d find room for this monstrosity, and I don’t relish the idea of lugging this around the convention floor, so perhaps HasbroToyShop.com will be the better option.

Looking at the cover art, I’ve got to wonder if the MOE 3-pack was originally slated to be a 4-pack to include Whirlwhind. Remember way back when Dave Vonner hinted that he would reveal a character that would blow us away? Whirlwhind would fit the bill a bit better than the actual Toy Fair reveal – Death’s Head. Just add that to the wild speculation file.

SDCC 2012: Superman, the Flash, Batman and SDCC Exclusive Bane USB Flash Drives

With The Dark Knight Rises opening the week after Comic-Con, you can bet there’s going to be some Batman and Bane madness. And if you want some portable storage for your SDCC footage of the Warner Bros. panel (or whatever digital media you need to carry in your pocket, you can pick up one of 500 Bane flash drives exclusive to the show. I’m sure they’ll have the rest there too, including the previous runs of Batman and Green Lantern flash drives.

I think Mimoco ought to pick up the Marvel license, so they can make a Leader MIMOBOT.

SDCC 2012: Marvel HeroClix Exclusive Giant-Man and Ant-Man (Kinda) Reveal

We’re catching up on SDCC exclusives, and a few weeks back, NECA revealed its HeroClix exclusive – Giant-Man, with an in-scale (read: too small for you to see him and too small for them to put anything on the HeroClix base) Ant-Man.

Don’t worry – NECA is making an actual HeroClix figure for Ant-Man too – he’ll come with his better half, the Wasp.

NECA Does SDCC Pt. 1: Giant-Man HeroClix Unveiled!

We’re Con Bound!

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be giving special sneak peaks out our 2012 convention exclusives, and we start today with the brand-spanking new 2012 Convention Exclusive Marvel HeroClix Giant-Man Super Booster! Priced at $39.99, Giant-Man also includes a proportionate Ant-Man HeroClix figure that’s invisible!

No, really, like he’s not there. Set to the scale of Giant-Man, you can’t see Henry Pym when he shrinks all the way down to Ant-Man size. Also, when Marvel HeroClix first premiered way back in 2002, a similar Ant-Man was offered at conventions that year, so this Ant-Man makes a perfect bonus piece for Pym as Giant-Man. As you can see above, there’s a base with Ant-Man on it, and you’ll just have to take our word for it that he’s there. You can’t possibly imagine how hard it was to sculpt something so small that it’s invisible to the naked eye.

Size Matters

Henry Pym AKA Giant-Man first appeared in Marvel’s Tales to Astonish #56 in 1964, having already made his debut as Ant-Man in issue #35 two years earlier. Rumors have been kicking around for a while now about a movie in the works, so we thought no better time to debut this Giant-Man Chaos War HeroClix!

Like all of the figures in the Chaos War collection, Giant-Man is gorgeously detailed and accurate to the comics. He’ll be available at San Diego Comic Con and other upcoming 2012 conventions.

For more on HeroClix, be sure to check out the Marvel Chaos War HeroClix collection, and keep it tuned to your favorite action figures wholesaler for other 2012 convention exclusives to come and all the best merchandise from your favorite games, movies, and more!
