SDCC 2013: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) Joins Hasbro Star Wars Black Series

Hasbro Star Wars Black Series Obi-Wan Kenobi (1 of 4)

If you are a fan of the new 6-inch scaled Hasbro Star Wars Black Series *and* were paying attention to my AFPRon Instagram account (that’s AFP Ron, not AF Pron :D), you’d have seen that Hasbro added Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi to their Black Series display. I like the application of soft goods here – Kenobi’s front flaps are sculpted plastic, but underneath that are a soft goods bottom to his tunic – that should help keep his hips well-articulated with good motion.

I am sure some of you are Star Wars purists and would rather not have figures for the Prequel Trilogy. But remember – Obi-Wan does have the high ground.

SDCC 2013: Mattel Mattypalooza 2013! Panel Video

MOTUC Glimmer and DCUC Aquaman DC Universe Classics Doomsday

Toy Guru and the team hosted its annual Mattypalooza panel yesterday, and here’s the video. The SDCC staff has been very aggressive with video footage this year – they are asking us not to shoot the video screens, even though this has been standard practice for the toy panels since I’ve been to Comic-Con. So for a lot of this panel, it meant shooting the talking heads – although I did manage to capture the significant reveals.

They covered the current clubs (DC Universe Classics, the two Masters of the Universe Classics subs, and Watchmen) and the plans for 2014. There’s more coming for Ghostbusters, but for Back to the Future… still no figures! Also, watch the whole video for an appearance (and Mattel collaboration) with an icon in the industry. Excelsior!

SDCC 2013: Toynami DC Skelanimals, Hello Kitty Street Fighter, and Voltron

Here’s a couple of pics from the Toynami booth – no Narutos or Futurama in the booth. They did have a Masterpiece Voltron with light up eyes on display. No word on the release date for that one.

I have to say, the DC Skelanimals and the Hello Kitty / Street Fighter mashups do look good!

SDCC 2013: Hasbro Star Wars Panel Video

Hasbro Star Wars Black Series (9 of 26)

Hasbro held its panel for its Star Wars brand yesterday, and here’s the (not quite) complete video. Unfortunately, I missed a short portion in the middle of the panel with some camera problems – during the product discussion for the Star Wars Saga figures.

The panel opened with a preview of Angry Birds Star Wars 2 and the introduction of new Birds figures that interact with the game. It was followed by what I was waiting for, the reveal of upcoming Star Wars Black Series 6-inch figures. Han shot first!

SDCC 2013: Hasbro Star Wars Black Series

Hasbro Star Wars Black Series (1 of 26)

My excitement for the 6-inch Hasbro Star Wars Black Series figures continues unabated – and this is without even having opened and played with a single figure. Sure, I was lucky enough to be able to score an exclusive Boba Fett, but even though my buddy Hiro Nagano took a peek inside the box, I didn’t have the chance to take the bounty hunter out of his cardboard prison before my wife took him to UPS with the rest of our loot from the first couple of days to ship home.

Wave 2 was announced at the Hasbro Star Wars panel today (video to go up shortly) – I had said it would be crazy if Han Solo weren’t in this wave, after Entertainment Earth first revealed Greedo in the wave – I’m glad the Hasbro team isn’t crazy. Slave Leia was also a huge want for so many. And folks who don’t have a shot at the SDCC Boba Fett exclusive will be able to get him in wave 2, with no deco chances.
