SDCC 2014: Hot Toys Marvel Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy

SDCC 2014 Hot Toys Guardians of the Galaxy

I’d only seen Hot Toys’ teaser of Star-Lord for Comic-Con, but was happy to see all of the Guardians of the Galaxy present at Sideshow Collectibles’ display of the Hot Toys Marvel movie characters. I snapped pics of as much of the Guardians as I could, and included the recent additions to the Avengers / Captain America / Iron Man lines. Falcon and Winter Soldier both look awesome, and the Bones armor from Iron Man 3 has an impressive amount of detail. They also had the SHIELD Helicarrier on site – it could double for a small coffee table.

I believe you can pre-order Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and Iron Man in the Hot Toys section at Sideshow Collectibles. Happy shopping!

SDCC 2014: Sideshow Collectibles 1/6 Scale DC and Marvel Super-Heroes

SDCC 2014 Sideshow Collectibles One Sixth Scale DC Super-Heroes

Sideshow’s done a bit of hocus pocus with their 1/6 scale super-heroes. They started with some Bat-villains with Harley Quinn, Joker, and Catwoman before revealing their Batman. At that point, I was a little intrigued. Then, the big blue boy scout himself, Superman, and I was starting to get hooked.

Now, in addition to Batman and Superman, they brought out Green Lantern and Flash from DC, and Deadpool and Wolverine from Sideshow’s newly-announced Marvel 1/6 line.

DC and Marvel, in the same scale, by the same company? Now, I’m done. Check out our Sideshow Collectibles 1/6 Scale DC and Marvel Super-Heroes pics and let me know what you think.

SDCC 2014: Hasbro Transformers Generations Combiner Wars 2015 Sneak Peek

SDCC 2014 Hasbro Transformers Generations Combiner Wars 2015 Sneak Peek

I can admit to not knowing a whole lot about Transformers – luckily Sandman was able to join me at a special Transformers event this morning, where the Hasbro team revealed a sneak peek at the Transformers Generations Combiner Wars line. Combiners will be one of the big pushes for Hasbro at mass market retail in 2015.

The design team told us that for the inspiration of this line, they started with their earlier release of Bruticus, and gathered a lot of feedback from the collector community. The result should be pleasing – I think the figures look like they’ve got a lot more substance and heft. Hopefully, Sandman can weigh in with some more pics from the booth and his thoughts on the future of Transformers. But for now, I hope this quick look can tide you over.

SDCC 2014: Hasbro Marvel Universe Infinite Series

SDCC 2014 Hasbro Marvel Universe Infinite Series

I’ll wrap up my posts tonight coming full circle back to Hasbro and their Marvel offerings – this time here’s a look at their Marvel Universe Infinite Series 4-inch offerings, including the massive diorama that got a very cool update this year (I’ll have to go back to get some more pics of it). The line had become a little too hard for me to follow even back when it was still just Marvel Universe – with the re-issues and often-delayed variants, with my casual interest it was hard to keep up. And it’s even more true now that I’m cherry-picking the line.

But I can say this – the line continues to deliver some obscure figures that please fans of the broader Marvel Universe, and the current crop of base bodies is holding up just fine. I hope the brand refresh to “Infinite Series” can come close to living up to its name. Look for an update after the Hasbro Marvel panel this Saturday.

SDCC 2014: Mezco Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy

SDCC 2014 Mezco Breaking Bad

As much as I love Breaking Bad (after resisting year after year, I finally binge-watched it during the final season), Mezco’s offerings in the Breaking Bad action figure line (or perhaps “6-inch action figure-sized statues” would be more appropos) were a bit sparse. How many different color variants of Walt can we get? Now that there’s a Jesse Pinkman sculpt, we get to ask that question for him. For Gus Fring, there’s just two – and to keep from spoiling it, at least in this post, you can see them in our album for Mezco’s Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy lines.

While I don’t watch Sons of Anarchy, it looks like fans are getting a little bit more in terms of character selection. However, if you’re hoping for articulated figures instead of mini-statues, you’re in the same boat as Breaking Bad fans.
