SDCC 2015: The Nominees for the Hasbro Star Wars Black Series Fan Choice are…

Star Wars Black Series Fans Choice Poll finalists

Thanks for participating in nominating the seven finalists in Hasbro’s first Fan Choice for Star Wars: Black Series. We were told there’d be six, but I’m guessing the results for the nominations were too close to call.

They are: Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi (A New Hope), Lando Calrissian (The Empire Strikes Back), Darth Revan (Knights of the Old Republic), Sabine Wren (Star Wars Rebels), Gamorrean Guard (Return of the Jedi), Snowtrooper (The Empire Strikes Back), and General Grievous (Revenge of the Sith). It’s a very nice representation across the movies, video games, and animated series.

Vote for the Fan Choice for Star Wars: the Black Series on StarWars.com! Poll closes on July 10, when results are announced at San Diego Comic-Con. Who is your pick? (I’m going with Lando.)

SDCC 2015: Toys R Us Hosts Exclusives from Bandai, Hasbro, Mattel and More

SDCC 2015 Toys R Us Exclusives - Star Wars, Batgirl, and Power Rangers

Toy R Us is renewing its attempt to woo collectors by establishing a “Collector Vector” shop within both its traditional and online stores, and participating in San Diego Comic-Con with ten exclusives from a variety of toy manufacturers. While I’m doing fewer traditional toy runs now, I’ve been to my local TRU recently and have not noticed any change – but online they’ve established a Collector Vector search grouping that currently includes over 200 products and a landing page for their Con exclusives.

While I think TRU will continue to struggle to differentiate itself with collectors, the Con exclusives will help drive some traffic their way. The list includes the Yvonne Craig Batgirl from the ’60s Batman show (thankfully individually-carded and not in a 3-pack with Batman and Robin), a Star Wars Black Series Rancor set in the 3.75-inch scale, a Power Rangers exclusive, and more. They’ll be available at the Entertainment Earth booth (#2343) at the show and online at Toysrus.com/ComicConvention from Thursday, July 9 through Sunday, July 12, while supplies last, of course.

It’s an impressive list of exclusives – TRU may be on the decline, but they still have some sway with the toy companies.

SDCC 2015: Playmates Shares TMNT Panel and Leonardo Exclusive Details

SDCC 2015 Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Metal Mutants Leonardo

With Comic-Con right around the corner, Playmates Toys, the master toy licensee for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, has shared more details about their plans for TMNT at the big show. As we previously posted, they’ll be bringing back the Metal Mutants brand with an 11-inch Leonardo exclusive at the Nickelodeon booth – they gave us the official description and some more high res pics.

In addition, they’ll be hosting a TMNT panel on Friday, July 10. We’ll try to be there!

SDCC 2015 (and WebSwipe): Mattel Batman v Superman Exclusives – USA Today

SDCC 2015 Mattel Batman vs Superman 2-pack and Wonder Woman Barbie

Back when Mattel announced their Mattycollector exclusives for SDCC, many of us were surprised that they didn’t have any DC-related exclusives to show us. Surely, with Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice being promoted heavily, they wouldn’t miss out on that. Surely not. USA Today had the exclusive reveal today of Mattel’s BvS offerings for Comic-Con and beyond. For sale at the show, they’ll have a 2-pack of Batman vs Superman (natch!) in 6-inch scale and a Hot Wheels Batmobile, both from the upcoming movie. At $30, the 2-pack is well-priced for two 6-inchers, but I wonder if it’s indicative of what we’ll see for DC products from Mattel after the Four Horsemen era.

And for display, they’ll have a Wonder Woman Barbie based on Gal Gadot’s character from BvS, and a life-sized Hot Wheels Twin Mill car with graphics inspired from the movie. The Barbie and diecast toy version of the BvS Twin Mill will be available next spring as part of two new BvS product lines. I’ll admit, I do wonder what the Barbie versions of Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck will look like.

SDCC 2015: Mondo Sneak Peek at 1/6 Scale TMNT Leonardo and More

Posters, vinyl, and collectible figures will be available for Ant-Man, Superman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

SDCC 2015 Mondo TMNT, Ant-Man, and Hellboy

I’ll be making my first visit to Mondo at booth #835 this year. They first caught my attention with a PVC figure of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, but at SDCC they’ll be introducing a 1/6 scale comics-based version of the turtles, starting with Leonardo. They’ve said they’ll have all four turtles on hand.

In addition, Mondo has a bunch of other artist-driven collectibles to show off, including a statue of the first Hellboy (from the Mignola sketch from 1991), a poster for Ant-Man, and two records for those of you who still spin vinyl – from Aliens and Superman: The Animated Series.
