Masters of the Universe Classics Vykron Headlines a Puzzling Line-Up of Mattel’s SDCC Exclusives for 2012

Maybe it’s just me, but with the San Diego Comic-Con exclusives Mattel revealed yesterday, I am starting to think they are losing touch with their core market for their collector-oriented lines – the little boys that grew up with toys from He-Man and DC Comics and now have a strong nostalgic pull toward their grown-up versions. I understand the Cars, the Tiny Titans and the Polly Pockets – those same guys now have little boys and girls of their own, and SDCC has become a family event. But the rest seem odd or somehow miss the mark.

AFP’s Best of 2011 – Talyn’s Picks

As Ron pointed out in his Best of 2011 post, we both had a hard time choosing just one. There were alot of great toys in 2011, and a lot of getting used to the higher prices we now pay for toys… which brings me to my number one choice.

The Glyos System. The entire thing, not just one figure. These are the most affordable, quality, playable toys I have had in a LOOOONG time. They’re just plain damn fun! And this year they expanded quite a bit with the new Glyans and Rig-Wing.

Ask Matty Q&A Round-Up for 10/1

We know updates have been pretty sparse here since San Diego Comic-Con – we’ve all been super busy with real life. But I’m booked for a quick trip to New York next week for NYCC – so stay tuned!

Here’s a shout out to @philipjreed for encouraging us to get things started here again. Be sure to check out BattleGrip.com!

We’re back with the October edition of Ask Matty. Because of New York Comic-Con, Mattel won’t have another Q&A until November. Be sure to send in your questions as we get our coverage of NYCC up, since the next round of questions are due on the 15th.

1) We know we’ll get toys for The Dark Knight Rises, but what are the chances of Batman Legacy or another non-movie Batman line getting some shelf space in 2012?

In 2012, our collector product efforts will focus on Batman Legacy in the Spring, and TDKR Movie Masters once the movie product launches.

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Hasbro Exclusive Marvel Legends Thor

Whew! I’m finally getting around to dealing with my pics and loot from SDCC 2011.

Up first, I’m going to hit y’all with the SDCC Hasbro Exclusive Marvel Legends Thor! But before I get into it, much thanks to Sandman for snagging this for me when he was buying his Hasbro Show Exclusives as I was having more than a little trouble getting a damn ticket just to be able to stand in line to give Hasbro my money. They really need to do a better job with the retail booths at Comic-Con. In their defense, the line died to nothing by late Saturday afternoon when a lot of the Exclusives sold out, but the system could stand a little tweaking to be less frustrating to buyers at Comic-Con.

San Diego Comic-Con 2011 – threeA Toys Exclusive WWRp Slaughterhouse Dropcloth

DSCN3867.JPG

The San Diego Comic-Con exclusives from ThreeA Toys this year were some of the harder to get items at Comic-Con. Due to their limited numbers, they sold out every day within an hour of the Con opening. Most of the time, the people who were lucky enough to get their hands on these exclusives had been lined up before the show opened. By some stroke of luck, I managed to pick up a ThreeA SDCC Exclusive WWRp Slaugtherhouse Dropcloth, and boy was I psyched!
