Weekend Toy Run: Time to Army-Build Star Wars Black Series Stormtroopers

Star Wars Black Series Darth Vader and Stormtroopers on Cloud City

For a while it was tough to find the Star Wars Black Series Stormtroopers. They were originally in the wave 3 case packs that included prequel Obi Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, and a repack of Han Solo. Since Han had just been released in wave 2, I was expecting smaller orders and less availability for the wave overall.

That seems to be alleviated now, as Amazon has the Stormtroopers on sale for $15.34 (normally $22.99). Since Amazon is notorious for making many price adjustments throughout each day, Entertainment Earth also has the Stormtroopers for $19.99 each (but they’ll arrive in May.) After all, you’ve got to have at least 50 Stormtroopers, right? 😀

Toy Fair 2015: Star Wars Black Series Snubbed?

I may have been pre-conditioned by the Marvel presentation that preceded it, but when a Hasbro rep says “We know what you’re all waiting for,” I expect it to be followed with slides of 6-inch super-poseable action figures. But as entertaining as the discussion was, I was less enthused by the prospect of customizing my own lightsaber, since most of the configurations guarantee disemboweling oneself if one attempts to use them. After all, it probably looks pretty cool to have a 4-bladed lightsaber, but when 3 of them point at your own gut you might reconsider its practicality.

Suffice to say that with no mention at all of the Star Wars Black Series in either 4 or 6-inches, I’m wondering if we won’t see a little rest at retail before the inevitable onslaught of Episode 7 figures at the end of the year. Hasbro did have some Black Series on display in the showroom. I took pictures of the 6-inch figures. But they really didn’t talk about them much at all.

Toy Fair 2015: LEGO Movies – Star Wars and Jurassic Park

Toy Fair 2015 LEGO Jurassic Park (1 of 10)

In the second of our LEGO posts from this morning’s “Be our Toy Fair Valentine” LEGO party (I’m sure my wife is not appreciating that), here’s shots of two of the big movie properties – Star Wars and Jurassic Park.

It’s still early to expect sets from Episode 7 – the Star Wars stuff leverages the Original Trilogy, the Prequels, and the Rebels animated show. Jurassic Park, in contrast, reveals what we’re expecting to be the major action set pieces from the movie. The LEGO Movie still has sets coming out this year – I didn’t get any pics though.

Star Wars Graphic Novels 75% Off for Nicks and Dents at TFAW.com

TFAW Star Wars nick and dent sale

Has the prospect of a new Star Wars movie (and action figures) got you jonesing for more Star Wars right now?

If so, Things From Another World has you covered. They’ve got a 75% off sale for “nick and dent” Star Wars trade paperbacks underway – over 150 TPBs for sale. These are ones with small scuffs or dings but are still awesome for reading – they won’t have torn pages or marred artwork in any way. I’ve bought a lot of nick and dent TPBs during former TFAW sales because the prices are great, and it’s not like you get TPBs as investments anyways.

It’s a long wait until December 18, when Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally opens, so stock up on some reading material and get your Star Wars fix for cheap. Happy shopping!

Who’s Ready to Buy New Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series, and Transformers?

You may still be recovering from the holidays, but to Hasbro and the online retailers, it’s a new year. And that means new toys designed to part you from your hard earned cash!

Hasbro has given the green light for online retailers to list new product assortments for the first quarter of 2015, and so we’re seeing pre-order pages for new Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series, and Transformer Combiner Wars… My wallet’s about to take a beating. Who’s with me?
