Celebrate Superman’s 75th Anniversary with this Animated Short (Video)

Superman 75th Anniversary Animated Short

Just wanted to post this video for posterity – it’s an animated short celebrating Superman’s 75th anniversary, and it was created by Zack Snyder and Bruce Timm. At just over two minutes long, it manages to pack in a ton of references to important moments in Supes’ history; his appearances in pop culture, including comics, TV, and movies; and the creators behind them.

There’s so many that DC compiled 75 annotations for the 75th Anniversary Short. One Super-snub – the Superman Returns reboot starring Brandon Routh and directed by Bryan Singer is missing. Ouch!

DC Collectibles Solicits Reveal DC Comics Designer Series by Greg Capullo, More Supervillains, and Arrow 2-Pack

DC Collectibles played the Spoiler Alert game with the Capullo Riddler, and he’ll be joined by 3 other figures in the first series: Batman, Talon, and Nightwing. They’re due out in April and May next year. The solicits also more New 52 super-villains with Bizarro and Deathstorm (who?), and included the Arkham City Two-Face that was teased in the week with Solomon Grundy feature – apparently he’s on his own, and not with another wave of Arkham action figures.

Finally, an action figure 2-pack for the Arrow TV series, with Oliver Queen and Deathstroke – are you guys excited about this?

NYCC 2013: Kotobukiya Statues

NYCC 2013 - Kotobukia (1 of 47)

The show’s over, but I’ll have more NYCC galleries over the next couple days.

Kotobukiya is not my typical fare – no budget or space for them – but they produce some of the most beautiful statues from across pop culture domains. They’ve got licenses for movies, video games, comics, and more.

NYCC 2013: Play Imaginative Super Alloy DC Comics New 52 Justice League Update

NYCC 2013 - Play Imaginative Super Alloy DC Comics New 52 Justice League (1 of 15)

For the first time in recent memory since Art Asylum produced Minimates for Marvel and DC, Play Imaginative holds licenses for both of the major comic book companies. On the DC front, they are producing Super Alloy diecast figures in 1/6 for the New 52 Justice League. In San Diego, we saw everything up through the new Green Lantern. Here in NY, Yes Anime (Play Imaginative’s US distributor) also brought along Cyborg and Flash.

Folks who pre-ordered Superman around SDCC – Yes Anime reports that after a delay in Singapore, Play Imaginative will be delivering in the next couple of weeks. For NYCC, they had air-shipped about 10 of the Supes for sale at the show. The rest are coming by sea. They were a bit vague on the reasons behind the delay (Superman was expected to ship in the August time frame), suggesting that it was perhaps to put a more powerful fan in the Fortress base and for some resculpting of the Superman heads.

NYCC 2013: Mattel DC Comics Multiverse – Batman and Superman Movies Wave

NYCC 2013 - Mattel DC Multiverse - Movie Wave (3 of 26)

For as long as there’s been Batman and Superman figures, collectors have been asking for figures from the classic Michael Keaton Batman and Christopher Reeve Superman films. After the Nolan-verse Batman and Man of Steel Movie Masters, I know collectors were hoping for the expansion of that line, and were further encouraged by the Batman 1966 Classic TV Series figures.

So you can imagine my surprise when Mattel decided to introduce from the Keaton and Reeve movies, but choose to do it in the DC Comics Multiverse 3.75-inch line. And while I think generally speaking, the figures look decent for ones in the small scale, I struggle to shake off the notion that this is not a friendly move towards collectors who supported the movie and TV figures in the existing 6-inch scale.
