Hot Toys Reveals Superman Man of Steel General Zod

Hot Toys Man of Steel General Zod 1

Hot Toys has finally revealed its General Zod figure from Superman: Man of Steel, and I think it turned out great. There have been some requests for a more neutral head sculpt in addition to the angry, grimacing look that they went with, and some not too flattering comparisons with Jack Black. I’d prefer multiple head sculpts too, but if Hot Toys only includes one, I think they made a good choice.

You can pre-order General Zod at Sideshow Collectibles for $239.99. Superman and Jor-El are also available to pre-order.

Play Imaginative to Highlight New 1/12 Super Alloy Iron Man Hammer Drones and More at STGCC

The Singapore Toy, Game, and Comic Convention is this weekend, August 31 – September 1, and Play Imaginative will be on site with its Super Alloy line of diecast figures that span both DC and Marvel. On the DC front, they’ll have both Superman and Batman from their New 52 Justice League 1/6 scale lineup for sale. And from Iron Man, they’ll have Iron Patriot and War Machine from Iron Man 3 in 1/6 scale – outside the US they’ve share rights for Iron Man in that scale with Hot Toys.

They’re also taking pre-orders for Green Lantern, some of their 1/4 scale Iron Man figures, and the 1/12 scale Mark 42. But new for this show are the Hammer Drones from Iron Man 2, in 1/12 scale. These will be up for pre-order for 115SGD, which is about $90, and are tagged as “event exclusives.” With all of the other Super Alloy figures, each event exclusive has been available for order with minor changes, so even if you can’t get to Singapore, you’ll probably be able to order the Hammer Drones through YesAnime, the US distributor for Play Imaginative.

Supeman Man of Steel Movie Masters Variants in Stock at Amazon for $15.99

I think there must be some wisdom in Hasbro’s plan to realign the Marvel Legends brand with the various Marvel movies next year. Because while the Rocket Raccoon wave of Marvel Legends has only been available on Amazon through third party sellers (for inflated prices), lines like the Superman: Man of Steel Movie Masters keeps coming back into stock for regular prices, even some of the harder to find variants.

I still haven’t seen the Man of Steel movie yet, but somehow the news of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman (and the subsequent hilarious outrage) is making me want to see it less.

Soapbox Sunday: Sour Grapes – Club Infinite Earths Doomsday was too Big

Mattycollector Club Eternia Doomsday Comparison

The Club Infinite Earths subscription was declared officially dead last week. So what? – the club exclusive Doomsday, if he had gotten enough subscribers to get him made, was too damn big anyways.

For this edition of Soapbox Sunday, let’s take a look at how Doomsday was portrayed with Superman in the comics that led to their mutual destruction – spoiler! If you’re not convinced that the Doomsday(s) we were shown at San Diego Comic-Con (and subsequently did not support enough to save Club Infinite Earths and get him made) was way too big to be in scale with DC Universe Classics, then you’re probably one of the weak-willed individuals that signed up for Club Infinite Earths, and will never wield a Green Lantern power ring (just like weak-willed me).

Play Imaginative Shares New Images and Details for its Super Alloy New 52 Superman

Play Imaginative Super Allow Superman Regular Edition - 1

I saw the 1/6 scale Super Alloy Superman from Play Imaginative at SDCC – as much as I’ve disliked the New 52 costumes in the comics, somehow this figure grabbed my attention. Perhaps it was because with Batman already released and Green Lantern and more on the way, this will be a way to collect a comic-based Justice League of America in 1/6 scale with the kind of detail and quality I’ve grown accustomed to with Hot Toys.

This regular edition is the same as the event exclusive edition, minus the third head sculpt (with angry expression and heat vision eyes without flames) and three Kryptonian crystals that fit in the Fortress base. But you can actually get the event exclusive Super Alloy Superman at Yes Anime – they’re Play Imaginative’s distributor in the US.
