Last night I noticed that Amazon had the black-suited Superman from Mattel’s Movie Masters Man of Steel line in stock for $15.99. (Hint: if you like AFP’s Facebook page or follow the AFP Twitter account you got a special heads up last night.) Supes is still up this morning so I thought I’d make an official post about it.

Jor-El is also back in stock at the same price, and the regular Superman never left – thus negating any chance of a Superman Returns joke.

MattyCollector Subscriptions and Pre-Order Push – So it Begins, So it Ends?

It’s just been a week since the Mattypalooza panel at San Diego Comic-Con, but Mattel has already alerted fans that the 2014 subscriptions and the Ecto-1 pre-order are “quite below” expectations, despite them opening up the subscriptions several weeks early. Call it scare tactics, sales and marketing, or just the plain unvarnished truth – Toy Guru is once again warning fans that pre-orders for the Club Eternia and Club Infinite Earths subscriptions and the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 pre-order have to hit their minimums or they’re not happening.

And while, thank Grodd, they’ve replaced the thermometer graphics this year with product silhouettes, the picture they paint right now is pretty daunting. There’s under three weeks to go to the August 19 deadline. Continue reading “MattyCollector Subscriptions and Pre-Order Push – So it Begins, So it Ends?”

SDCC 2013: Hot Toys at the Sideshow Collectibles Booth

Hot Toys (24 of 60)

I had been wanting to get to the Sideshow booth to check out the Hot Toys displays – it’s always one of the highlights of SDCC for me. I got my chance yesterday afternoon – and would have had an Instapics post up sooner, if it wasn’t for the massive congestion in the cellular network. All afternoon, a lot of folks in the San Diego Convention Center were having trouble making calls and sending texts, not to mention uploading pictures to the AFPRon Instagram account. 😀

Despite frustrations trying to keep connected, the Hot Toys showing did not disappoint. As you might expect, there was a ton of Avengers and Iron Man figures on display, but when you add in Robocop, G.I. JOE, Lone Ranger, and the growing DC licenses, there was something good for everybody.

SDCC 2013: Play Imaginative Super Alloy (Preview Night)

Play Imaginative Super Alloy Marvel and DC (7 of 12)

Singapore’s Play Imaginative is poised to compete in the United States on a number of fronts with its high-end diecast collectibles. To fit into the crowded Marvel and DC licensed product markets, they’ve had to pick out niche scales that were available. For Marvel, they’ve got Iron Man in the 1/4 and 1/12 scale, while for DC, it’s 1/6. All look great, but for those of us hoping for one company to have Marvel and DC under one roof in compatible scales, we’ll keep waiting.
