Border Patrol: Wrestling Edition – C.M. Punk, Goldberg, and Samoa Joe

Being an old-time wrestling fan, I’ll admit that Hulk Hogan’s return to the WWE got me to check up on the latest news. There’s a lot of buzz on C.M. Punk since he quit the WWE a few weeks back, and his no-show at RAW last night in his hometown Chicago furthered the belief that it’s a shoot, not a work – sometimes wrestling is real! This edition of Border Patrol is for wrestlers you haven’t and probably never will see in Mattel’s line of WWE figures.

  • Mattel WWE CM Punk (Wrestlemania 26) by jps9779 – Mattel’s made a lot of C.M. Punk variants, but one you will probably never see is his Wrestlemania 26 gear, with its G.I. JOE styled appearance – not a fan of this look? there’s another C.M. Punk custom from his ECW title match vs. John Morrison – ends Mar 05, 2014 15:29:06 PST
  • Mattel WWE Bill Goldberg by ifigureidletyano – somehow, Mattel has not yet made a flashback figure of Goldberg, making him a popular figure for customizers – there’s also another Goldberg custom on sale this week – ends Mar 06, 2014 18:43:41 PST
  • Mattel TNA Samoa Joe by knlimper – one wrestler you will likely never see in the Mattel collection is Samoa Joe, who has wrestled outside of all of the wrestling circuits that Vince McMahon has absorbed into the WWE – Marvel Toys / Toy Biz made a Samoa Joe figure during their short-lived TNA license, but if you want one in the Mattel Elite style, this will be one of your few chances – ends Mar 05, 2014 19:00:21 PST

Were You Hoping for GotG Marvel Legends from the Comics? Star-Lord is Coming

Star-Lord comic panel

While I am sure there’s many fans who are psyched for the movie-based Marvel Legends figures for Guardians of the Galaxy, I know that there’s also a group who hoped for comics-based versions of GotG. After all, we’ve already gotten Drax the Destroyer and Rocket Raccoon. Drax joined Marvel Legends courtesy of the Arnim Zola wave in 2012, and Rocket Raccoon was the second mini-BAF from last year.

Rest assured, Hasbro has the makings for Star-Lord already produced, and you may already have the proof in your collection.

A Star Wars Christmas Story by Macas

Most folks have taken down their lights and packed away their Christmas decorations for the year, but AFP reader Macas sent in a story from his childhood that put me right back in the holiday spirit. It’s a story about the one toy that would make or break his Christmas – and change his life forever. He now makes a living as a toy dealer, buying and selling toy collections, so he’s living the dream!

Spoiler alert – no tongues get stuck to flagpoles, but I can’t promise he didn’t shoot his eye out with a laser blaster.

Border Patrol: Marvel Legends Sirens – Scream, Spider-Woman, and Storm

This week I found a few Marvel Legends females that show how the new Hasbro bodies are way ahead of what’s come before them.

  • Marvel Legends Scream by glennwebman69 – this spawn of Venom uses the Jean Grey body – it works for Scream’s lithe body type – great sculpt and paint here enhance the base figure – ends Feb 02, 2014 18:44:21 PST
  • Marvel Legends Spider-Woman by Loosecollector – this is a previously owned custom being sold by its current owner – the Jean Grey body is a big improvement over the lanky, awkward body that came from Toy Biz (hey, I was happy to get her way back then), but I’ve got to believe that Jessica Drew deserves the badonkadonk from the new Moonstone body – ends Jan 29, 2014 13:41:29 PST
  • Marvel Legends Storm by Wings – the old Toy Biz Storm was great back in the day, but seeing her on the Moonstone body has me convinced the weather witch needs more curves – the approach the customizer used with her hair makes for a nice wind-blown effect, but I would have liked to see it blended better at the hairline – ends Feb 02, 2014 13:08:04 PST
