Toy Fair 2015: LEGO Marvel and DC Super Heroes

Toy Fair 2015 LEGO Super Heroes (43 of 44)

We’ll have a few LEGO posts this morning to kick off our official coverage of Toy Fair 2015. And wow, it’s bitter cold in NYC and LEGO opened the show this morning before I’d normally be going to bed on the West Coast (at least some nights) – so take mercy on me if it’s a rough start.

The Super Heroes licenses with Marvel and DC continue to chug on in 2015. The Marvel side is supported by the Avengers and Ant Man movies, while DC relies on the the mainstays of Justice League and Batman (even the Green Lantern set has got a Space Batman mini-figure.)

Toy Fair 2015: DC Collectibles Unveils Action Figure Line-Up for the Year, Including Batmobile for Batman: The Animated Series Line

Remember way back when we used to ask “How about vehicles?” for our favorite 6-inch lines? It used to be that vehicles were considered too costly to make, but Mattel finally found a way to do it for the Batman 1966 line, and now DC Collectibles will add an animated Batmobile (including LED lights and a sliding hatch for the 2-figure cockpit!) for its 6-inch scaled line for Batman: The Animated Series this year. The solution, of course, was to set a “collector” price tag. The Mattel Batmobile was $50 as a Toys R Us exclusive. We’ll have to wait and see how much the BTAS Batmobile will crush our wallets.

DCC also announced more waves of the BTAS line, including Bane and Nightwing; more from The Flash and Arrow; and a new line of 6=inch action figures called DC Comics Icons, based on the art of Ivan Reis. Should be a good year for DC collectors, even with the void left by the demise of Mattel’s DC Universe Classics.

Toy Fair 2015: Did Mattel Just Tease Masters of the Universe Classics Ceratus?

King Ceratus (MOTU 200X)

Mattel is holding their “nerd herd” this Sunday at Toy Fair, and to build a little excitement they’ve just revealed a teaser image. Sure looks like Ceratus’ tail to me.

Ceratus was introduced in the 200X MOTU cartoon as Whiplash’s older brother and leader of the Caligar. If this tease indeed turns out to be Ceratus, he’ll joined King Randor, King Carnivus, and Lord Dactus as members of the Eternian Council represented in Masters of the Universe Classics.

Toy Fair 2015: Mezco Reveals One:12 Collective Mutant Leader from The Dark Knight Returns

Mezco is holding a pre-Toy Fair preview this morning (sadly, I can’t be there) and teased this on their Facebook page – the Mutant Leader from The Dark Knight Returns, for their One:12 Collective line. I think Buzzy Fret put it best when he emailed me early this morning: “Holy crap!!”

Can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us this year – we’ll get a closer look at Toy Fair in just a little over a week.

"You don't get it boy...this isn't a mud-hole...it's an operating table. And I'm the surgeon."

Toy Fair 2014: Pulp Fiction Licenses Multiple Action Figure Lines for 20th Anniversary

Funko ReAction Pulp Fiction

It’s “When did I get so old?” time – Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction turns twenty this year. That’s twenty years since John Travolta’s career was revitalized so he could get out of movies like the Look Who’s Talking franchise and go on to star in fare like Michael (the angel movie) and Battlefield Earth. Ok, so maybe Pulp Fiction was more of a blip on his career path.

To capitalize on our nostalgia factor, two companies – Funko and Diamond Select Toys – have jumped onto the Pulp Fiction license, and are producing four separate action figure lines to capture our collector dollars.
