Toy Fair 2018: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a Licensing Juggernaut for Universal

Make no mistake – Universal Studios Licensing is making the most of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The second movie in the Jurassic World trilogy (fifth in the Jurassic Park franchise) opens in June this year, and following the blockbuster success of 2015’s Jurassic World, a plethora of licensees have signed on to deliver products for the sequel.

We’re not just talking toys for kids here – Universal’s media tour also included apparel and accessories, following the model they used for The Mummy last year. While that movie fizzled for them at the box office, Jurassic World seems like a sure thing.

Toy Fair 2018: Hasbro Shares Pre-Show Reveals for Marvel and Star Wars

Toy Fair has not officially started, but Hasbro has shared some product reveals in a pre-show tease from their Marvel and Star Wars product lines. As you might expect, both brands remain aligned with the major movie releases for the year.

On the Marvel front, Hasbro is continuing the Marvel Legends premium role play line with an electronic Infinity Gauntlet from Avengers: Infinity War. They’re also continuing the revamped Mighty Muggs line with new figures for Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Hasbro previously teased upcoming Marvel Legends waves for Deadpool 2 and Venom.

Hasbro’s Star Wars reveals lean heavily into Solo: A Star Wars Story with new Black Series and Force Link figures, among others. But they also have a sprinkling of figures from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Hasbro Reveals Two More Marvel Legends Waves for 2017 – Marvel Knights and Thor

Hasbro is building excitement in the weeks ahead of San Diego Comic-Con, by hosting a special online event today for fan websites. In an exclusive video chat, the Hasbro Marvel Legends team revealed the final two carded figures and the Build-A-Figure for the Marvel Knights / Netflix wave. They also teased three figures from a new Legends wave tied to Thor: Ragnarok.

Toy Fair 2017: Hasbro Marvel Legends Report

What’s clear coming out of this year’s Hasbro Collector Preview is that the Marvel team’s decision to rebrand the Marvel Legends to tie to mass media has been a success. This year, Legends is being driven not only by three movie releases in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but also by its extended TV properties on ABC and Netflix and several animated shows. The result is a healthy line-up that spans mass retail releases and exclusives for both traditional and online specialty retailers.

And what about those properties that still fall outside of Marvel Studios control? Hasbro is still finding a way to leverage them with comics-based figures.
