Toy Fair 2015: Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics [Update – Club 200X Announcement]

Toy Fair 2015 Mattel Masters of the Universe Classics (1 of 35)

It’s a bit difficult for me to get amped up for Masters of the Universe Classics. During the most recent subscription drive, the 2015 Club Eternia was heavily marketed as the last year for Four Horsemen figures – “Hey folks – this toy line has 12 months left to live…”

At the Mattycollector “nerd herd” this morning, at least the new guys brought in to manage the collector lines didn’t hit us with that downer. They also didn’t say a lot about what’s coming in the line. I guess that’s what these pictures are for.

Toy Fair 2015: Funko Legacy Firefly Action Figures

Funko is off to a great start with its Firefly action figures from its 6-inch Legacy line. The first wave will feature Captain Mal Reynolds, Jayne Cobb, Kaylee Frye, Hoban Washburne, and Zoe Washburne. Each figure looks fairly poseable and comes with a few accessories. For example, Jayne is packaged with a plain head and also has the orange knit cap his mother made. He also has his most very favorite gun, Vera.

That leaves Simon and River Tam, Inara, and Shepherd Book for a second wave – hopefully the line won’t be canceled early due to poor marketing by Fox. Still too soon?

Toy Fair 2015: Mezco’s Flawless Victory – Mortal Kombat, One:12 Collective, and More

Toy Fair 2015 Mezco (12 of 19)

No offense to Living Dead Doll collectors, but when that was the bulk of what Mezco was making, it was a far cry from those heady days when Hellboy comic and movie figures were dominating my shelves. But with their recent license acquisitions, coupled with setting a new bar for mixed media action figures in the 6-inch scale, Mezco is back, baby!

Today I got a closer look at the One:12 scale Batman and Judge Dredd, the Mortal Kombat X figures, and some upcoming figures for Breaking Bad.

Toy Fair 2015: Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Instapics

Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The good news is that Playmates’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, buoyed by the success of the Nickelodeon animated series, had the number one SKU in boys’ toys last year. That means a lot more basic and deluxe figures, as well as branching out into new expressions for the brand.

The bad news is that within the mix, the Classics line did not perform to expectations. So for those of you hoping to expand beyond the Turtles, Rocksteady and Bebop, with the Shredder and Krang figures shown in prototype previously, you are out of luck. Classics is on hiatus for now, but could be revisited as the sequel to the TMNT reboot hits screens in 2016.

Toy Fair 2015: It’s Not All About Legends for Hasbro’s Marvel Team

Toy Fair 2015 Hasbro Marvel Universe (1 of 8)

As much as I’m digging on Marvel Legends for 2015, I’d be remiss if I didn’t highlight the other expressions from Hasbro’s Marvel team before shutting down for the night. In figures, the ones nearest to my heart are the Marvel Universe and Marvel Titan Series figures.
