SDCC 2013: Diamond Select Toys Marvel Select, Minimates and More

SDCC 2013 - Diamond Select Toys

We’re still working through pics from San Diego Comic-Con. This set is from Sandman’s visit to the Diamond Select Toys booth. They had a lot on display – the usual suspects like Marvel Select and Marvel Minimates were joined by some newcomers. In the “Select” brand it looks like DST will be adding a Sin City Select line as the sequel to the Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller hit comes to fruition. On the Minimates front, it looks like Tomb Raider will be joining the Marvel and Walking Dead lines. And who doesn’t love Femme Fatales?

I’ll have to review my own DST pics – I am surprised not to see Star Trek Select in here. I’m not sure if that’s because they didn’t have any on display or if Sandman hates Star Trek. I think I would recall if they had anything on display past Kirk, Spock, and Picard. [/Ron]

Sandman and I met with Adam Biehl (Vice President, Global Marvel Line at Hasbro) and Dwight Stall (Senior Marvel Product Design Manager, Hasbro) today for a brief conversation about Marvel Legends and the related 6-inch Marvel action figure lines. We talked about the health and direction of the Marvel lines, issues with distribution and the fate of running change variants, and more.

This was a great lead-in to the Hasbro Marvel panel, which we will be posting in full later this morning.

SDCC 2013: Hasbro Marvel Universe (Preview Night)

Hasbro Marvel Universe (1 of 9)

With the return of Marvel Legends, Hasbro’s 4-inch Marvel Universe line has slowed down a little bit. It’s understandable – collectors who had no outlet for their Marvel appetites had adopted the line, but with 6-inches back in force, some old-timers who had bought in wholesale to Universe are back to cherry-picking, or back solely on the Legends line.

On Preview Night, Hasbro had the next wave of Universe on display, as well as the current Wolverine 4-inch line. They also revealed 4-inchers for the upcoming Thor movie.

SDCC 2013: Hasbro Marvel Legends (Preview Night)

Hasbro Marvel Legends (Preview Night) (30 of 30)

Hasbro’s 6-inch Marvel figures have steadily improved during their tenure – and since the relaunch of Marvel Legends last year, Hasbro has consistently had a great showing during San Diego Comic-Con. Preview Night featured a new series of Marvel Legends, a surprise set of three new figures for the 6-inch Iron Man line, and a look at some packaged figures from the Wolverine Legends line.
