Mattel Announces Toys R Us Exclusive WWE Wrestlemania 26 Line-Up

I thought the Wrestlemania 26 series might be a good opportunity for more Divas in the line, with the 10-Diva Tag Team match, but everyone knows female figures don’t sell! 😉

Mattel is excited to announce the line-up for our WrestleMania 26 Series! These figures will be available exclusively at Toys R Us starting August 2010.

  • Basics: Chris Jericho, Kane, Shelton Benjamin, Matt Hardy, Christian, and Drew McIntyre

Mattel Ghostbusters, Toy Story, WWE, and Avatar Exclusives Announced on Attack of the Show

Attack of the Show aired part two of Blair Butler’s visit with Mattel’s Toy Guru, aka Scott Neitlich, where they covered the remaining exclusives for San Diego Comic-Con. We had guessed at some of these looking at snapshots of the video clips from the first reveal, but we hadn’t seen the Toy Story exclusive before tonight. Without further ado, here’s what was shown:

  • The Real Ghostbusters Retro-Action Heroes Peter Venkman – Mattel kicks off an extension to the Ghostbusters license with Mego-styled figures from the popular animated series. For SDCC, Venkman comes in his movie colors, as the Real Ghostbusters appeared in the episode, “Citizen Ghost.”
  • Toy Story 3 Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear – this new Toy Story character, voiced by Ned Beatty in the upcoming third movie in the Toy Story series, will only be available as an SDCC and MattyCollector.com exclusive. The movie opens June 18, so Lots-O should have lots of companions on shelves waiting for him to join. He’ll apparently come with a shortcake scent.
  • WWE Wrestlemania XV Undertaker – this exclusive looks like an Entrance Great, with the Undertaker appearing in his Ministry of Darkness costume from Wrestlemania XV when he faced the Big Boss Man in the “Hell in a Cell” cage match. If it’s an Entrance Great, it will come with a base and sound chip that plays his entrance music. This version of the Undertaker will only be available as an SDCC and MattyCollector.com exclusive.
  • Avatar “Final Battle” Jake Sully vs. Colonel Quaritch – Jake gets a new head, the AMP gets some battle-damage, and they all get new accessories. A full diorama in package will make you think twice about opening it.

Toy Guru promises even more reveals, so check back again tomorrow.

AFP Ask Matty Round-Up for 4/15/10

No Magic 8-Ball this time around – here’s the straight up answers from Toy Guru and Mattel. Thanks guys!

1. If the demand for Masters of the Universe Classics at mass market is strong enough to support a retail line, what would that mean for MattyCollector.com and the long-term plan for MOTUC ? Would you want to continue the MattyCollector program with monthly releases with the long-term roadmap intact, or would you have to pull some figures forward to build out the mass market assortments?

Masters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 01 (1024x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 02 (1024x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 03 (769x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 04 (766x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 05 (1024x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 06 (1024x1024).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 07 (1024x768).jpgMasters of the Universe Classics - DC Universe Classics 2-packs 08 (1024x768).jpg

If we ever brought MOTUC to retail, it would most likely be only in a movie year and would only be re-releases and repaints with fewer accessories (one head only, one weapon only) within a new pack-out pose in order to keep the original releases special . The plan, at least now, would be to continue the new figures with multiple heads and multiple accessories on a monthly basis on Mattycollector.com, even if re-releases are available at retail.

Mattel WWE Elite Collection Triple H

On a recent Toy Safari, I came across a Mattel WWE Elite Series 2 Triple H figure hanging on the pegs at my local Target. Now I’m not a wrestling fan by any stretch of the imagination but being a customizer I could see mucho potential for using the Elite Triple H as a base figure for a barbarian character. Luckily I snapped some pics to throw up here on AFP, before I dismantled him.

Mattel WWE Elite Collection Series 4 Press Pics

Mattel has published pics of the WWE Elite Collection Series 4 on its Facebook page. Series 4 includes the Big Show, Chris Jericho (with variant colors), Findlay, John Morrison, Kane, and Kofi Kingston. I think that the new head sculpts are looking a little more dramatic – with the first couple of figures it seemed like Mattel was trying to keep them devoid of all emotion.
